Shopkick: Free App for Smart Phones and Tablets

Most of us are in and out of stores at least once a week. With the Shopkick app, you can make kicks - points --simply walking into a store, points that will earn you rewards as you accumulate them.

Shopkick, founded in 2010, was, according to the Shopkick website , was rated by Forbes as "one of America's most promising companies" in 2014. Even so, I only recently learned about the app from my neighbor, who began using the app herself after a friend told her about the site. That same friend explained that through her use of Shopkick, she had accumulated enough points/rewards to purchase a 50-inch television set from BestBuy -- and it didn't cost her one red cent!

The app enables you to earn points three ways: Through walking into a store; by scanning items in the store; and/or by purchasing items. Your points earned are tallied by the app and applied to the reward you choose. The rewards choices are many, ranging from gas cards to Target gift cards to BestBuy gift cards and much more.

Not every store participates in the Shopkick program, but there are many that do. When you download the app, it gives you a list of participating stores in your area.

I'm excited about the prospect of earning rewards just for walking into a store and won't mind scanning a few products each time. My plan is to save my rewards to buy things for my grand kids. Have you tried Shopkick? If so, would you share your experiences with it?

Here are more than 500 reviews of Shopkick on Influenster , so you can get an unbiased idea of the app.

Thanks for sharing this information. I do a lot of my shopping at Tesco-Lotus in Thailand. It will be interesting to know whether I can use shopkick at that UK chain store.

Hmm. I wonder if I can find an app like that that works in the UK.

Sounds great, but my Galaxy S2 doesn't allow me to download apps.

I had a look at their site but their "About" page doesn't tell me what they DO. I like to see what a site or company DOES before joining it or signing up. I see it is for the US but no doubt, whatever it does will spread to the UK, one way or another, sooner or later.

I've used ShopKick before and didn't like it. It never really worked. It just froze my phone. Maybe I'll give it another try in the future, but for now, I think I'll use other apps to earn rewards.

Perhaps if you visit the Shopkick website, you'll be able to determine if that store is part of the program.

It would be great if you could. I was disappointed when I just visited the Shopkick website to see in what countries it was available, as there is no such information there.

Does the Android system call those programs you can download something other that apps? I was given to understand this program is available for all types of smartphones.

I noticed that, to, MegL . In fact, none of the information pages at the site offer much, if any, information. Distressing. I hope my experience with the app itself will be much better than accessing the website.

I appreciate learning what your experience was with this app. If my experience turns out to be like that, the app will be off my phone faster than you can say, "Jack rabbit."

I keep telling you to make the jump to AT&T like me and upgrade your phone woman.

Ah ha! Now I know whose brain to tap should I have questions about how to use the app. : )

Paulie wrote on August 18, 2015, 3:10 AM

Yes, I will definitely do that once I get caught up here.
