30 Day Book Challenge Day 1
I saw this idea on Lexiconlover s post about a month ago and thought I should give it a go as I love reading, although I read no where near as much as I used to.
Day 1 of the challenge is the best book I read last year, hmm recently I've got the memory of a fish so I'll have to have a think about what I read last year.
After thinking about it the book that stands out for me is Lady of the Rivers by Phillipa Gregory. It's a historical fiction book about Jacquetta Rivers, who was the grandma of Elizabeth of York, and the great grandma of Henry viii (him of the 6 wives). It's set in England and France in the 15th century, this was at the start of the Wars of the Roses, which was a war between different royal cousins in England for the throne.
I enjoy the book as I like history, and historical fiction, plus it's about a lady I had never heard of before who I found interesting. In a time when ladies didn't or couldn't she helped to shape her own destiny, and was thought to be a witch and descended from a water goddess. Which is pretty cool :)
Since reading this I've gone onto read several of the books in the cousin's war series, including the more famous White Queen, which is about her daughter Elizabeth Woodville.
