A Happy Day

I got home late last night, fell asleep on the couch watching "The Good Wife: Season 1," and woke back up about 3:20 a.m. I have been awake ever since. It is now nearly 10:00 a.m. and I am feeling more alert than I have in a very long time.

Since I have been awake, I cleared out my refrigerator of all the well-past-due bottles, jars, and three science experiments growing a wide variety of molds. Too bad they cannot be tested to be a possible cure for cancer.

I also had about 10 apples in my refrigerator, which I peeled, cored and cut-up, while watching the show. They have been cooking on low with a bit of cinnamon and cloves, and turbinado sugar. They have already transformed into applesauce, but I think I am going to continue to cook them dowb to make apple butter. I love the concentrated flavors, which I prefer hands-down to my Aussie friends' Vegemite.

I have watched the entire first season now, and can return it to the library today. I am also intent on making it to the Department of Licensing today to renew my soon-to-expire driver's license.

Before I can do that, I have an 11 o'clock meeting with a woman I met by chance last night. She told me her story of her contract job ending, going through a divorce, etc. She is in her early 50s, and when I met her, she looked like she had been through the wringer. Of course, I went into "coach mode" and gave her a few minutes of free advice.

I learned she had access to the military base, and I told her I would show her where she had access to resources that might be of help to her. I know I cannot save the world, but I told her if she would meet me there, I would do what I could to help her. She needs a shot-in-the-arm, encouragement to move forward, and a solid plan. If she shows up today, then she is ready to take a baby step forward.

So, I have about a half hour to get ready and out the door. I wonder why it is that I am such a "soft touch" sometimes.

Oh, and speaking of heart, I cannot walk out the door without wishing DWDavisRSL a very Happy Birthday today!! I wish him the very best today and always! I hope I found a cake with enough candles; I did not count them, but it was the picture that seemed to have the most! emoticon :winking:

Have a great day, everyone!

"Soft touch"? Maybe. But I prefer to think of you as a strong woman who knows that strong women support each other, rather than tear each other down. Enjoy the apple butter! emoticon

This is random but I like how you do the bottom of your articles with the copyright and time and challenge. Very cool.

Sounds like a very productive day! I do love it sometimes when I wake up early naturally and have that "extra time" to get things accomplished.

You tell anyone and ruin my "cover," and I'll have to break your knees. emoticon

Thanks! It just keeps me focused, otherwise I don't know where I stand.

I have to agree with GemOfAGirl assessment of you. I think that in addition to being a strong woman, you also find much satisfaction in what it is you do and do so well. There's not a thing wrong with that.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Now the license photo will show you are healthy, rather than the worn woman you were the past few days from the virus.

Thank you for the Birthday wishes. I think the number of candles on the cake is just enough. Your apple butter sounds delicious.

Are you retired from the military? If so, it's great that you have access to a lot of resources on base. You certanly are a very caring and giving person. The world definitely needs more people who are caring and giving like you.

LOL, the birthday cake with the most candles? I heard a funny story one time, where the son said he wasn't providing birthday candles on his mother's cake again because last time the fire brigade had been called due to the amount of smoke from the candles! In terms of "soft touch", the businesses with the best customer service are those that are used the most. Customers use businesses that are interested in their problems and solving them, not those that just want to make a fast buck. It's called paying it forward and it will come back to you in one way or another. emoticon
