All Change

The National Theatre in the UK are staging a production based on three DH Lawrence dramas. At once! Staged in the round there will be three distinct stage areas each representing a different family household in a Midlands mining village.

In order for audience members to fully appreciate the performance they will be expected to swap seats part way through so they can get closer to a different family and view proceedings from a slightly different perspective.

Although I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to the theatre I think that if I was to attend this particular production I would have no hesitation in joining in with the seat swapping. I'd be perfectly happy to swap my seat for one in the nearest lap-dancing club, bar, coffee-shop, AA meeting, church, the big one with leather straps they plug in at the local prison or, at a push, McDonald's.

The production sounds interesting to say the least. I am not sure it won't be more appreciated by the actors than by the audience.

Until I got to the last sentence I thought you were enthused about the project.

Ahh cmon WD, don't dishearten me. You'd take church, AA, and McDonalds over some ... uh... unconventional theatre? It beggars or buggers or boggles the mind...

That sounds like an interesting theater production, one that I really would like to see. Hopefully one day.
