We Are on Our Way to See a Glacier

The title says most of it.

I received a phone call a few minutes ago from RGD to let me know: "We are on our way to see a glacier, but wanted to give you a call before I lost my signal and could not call." He is with his friend on "the small boat" (26'), taking a trip this morning to view one of the glaciers.

He said he slept well, but I know that he was dog-tired. I know that he has not slept well lately, and I am sure that the weight of it all finally caught up to him.

Knowing his friends, CH & SH, he had a wonderful breakfast before heading out. Once they get back to the bigger boat, they will likely set sail after lunch, leaving Petersburg, Alaska and will be out of cell range for several days, fishing Alaskan waters, and then Canadian waters.

RGD is not used to being "off the grid," and it will be interesting to see how he handles not having phone or computer access to those people (me his kids, and his brothers), he knows. He is slow to make friends, and even though he knows CH, and his wife, SH, for several years, he keeps most people at a very safe distance. He truly is a loner. I am about his only friend, who knows him like I do.

I think this is going to be good experience for him, though I dare not predict the outcome. It will certainly be interesting. There was also an invitation for me to come along, but I think this was something that he needed to do. I really did not want to have to rescue him socially, as I have done for so many years I have known him.

I am glad that he is doing this. He sounded less stressed this morning that I have heard in a long time.

It can be great to get away and do something without our regular supports.

I am sure he will have a great time. Many years ago, I took a cruise and saw a Glacier. It was so amazing.

I understand that they are stunningly beautiful. I hope he is appreciating the beauty that is in this world. He often does not see anything past his nose. I think this is an incredible adventure. I wish I were on one, but glad to not be doing this one. Too cold for my liking. LOL

I agree. Of anyone in this world, he deserves this.

It's great to read that your friend is enjoying his fishing trip. Seeing a glacier must really be awesome.

Many years ago I had the chance to visit Portage Glacier in Alaska while on leave up there. RGD is in for a visual spectacular. If he is lucky, some ice will calve off (while they are a safe distance away of course) as I hear that is something to see.

I agree. I haven't heard anything since they were on their way. I shall assume they are now on the open sea fishing.

I hope so. And hope he finally figured out how to take a picture. LOL
