Military Retirement Is Just the Beginning
In a couple of hours I will attend the retirement ceremony of my friend, Tami. She is a Navy Captain (full "bird" as the other services' Colonel.)
She leaves the military having worn two different military service uniforms in her lifetime. Her service began with much more humble beginnings. And she is one of those who has "done it all," including being a Naval aviator.
One of the things that strikes me about Tami, and her style of leadership, is her openness to listen to those with new ideas. She is the kind of leader that I would have loved to have in my lifetime--military or civilian. She sees possibilities and is not threatened by others who also see possibilities. Instead, however, I get to experience her as my friend.
My wish for her is that the next leg of her journey will be as exciting as the past couple of decades, if that is what she wants. After all, every time we step out, we have an opportunity to ask, "What's next?" Knowing Tami, she will look for more things she can conquer.
Congratulations, Tami! May this sunset day be as beautiful as the sunrise is tomorrow!
