Summer Days - Kids Away

While the cat's away the mice will play. While the kids are away, mom will do whatever! Woooo hoooooo.
I cook for nobody, but my dog, Flicker, and I answer to nobody. I tidy up after nobody. Not even myself. Yes, I do contribute to untidiness around here. I am reminded of that fact each time the other unconsciously enthusiastic participants remove themselves from the space. I recall way back when I rented my first apartment on my own. I was floored at how I practically couldn't see the floor in no time. There was no one to point the finger at but me.
In the first moment I had time to myself, I filled my bike tires with air while I tried to remember the last time this lady got on her bike. Flicker and I enjoyed a forest trail. The first evening, I let her in the back of my Jeep and listened to my two favourite Journey songs, over and over, while cruising the waterfront business strip and surrounding neighbourhood. She knows all the words now. Tonight we will catch sunset and the planets Venus and Jupiter, within half a degree of each other, in the western sky.

It was wonderful! They are back now. It is good to see them! I will try not to let myself slip away again.
