Is limiting membership a good or bad thing?

You may have seen the breaking news posted earlier that new members will only be able to join for the next 24 hours (probably less by now) so that the site can grow in a controlled manner and not encounter major problems.

Of course this is sensible as there is nothing more frustrating than a site that is constantly breaking down. However for things to succeed those that have joined up need to remain active or else there is a dange postings will dwindle. I hope to be able to play my part in being a regular poster and also reading others posts.

Hopefully in a few months time we will all be greatful we were able to get in early and help establish a great site.

Picture is my own original creation.

I totally agree I love that they don't want the site to go wrong but those who are here need to be active for everything to go right. P.S your photo didn't show up :)

well like ashley said on his post, its all for the site's stability, its growing really fast and the servers are almost capped so he will work on it till its able to sustain more trafic, hopefully it will be soon enough ... for now its up to us to keep the site alive and the community strong

Several of us had suggested closing the "other site" to new members for a time, for similar reasons. The admin there chose not to limit site growth, and I believe it has resulted in a lot of new members who aren't able to post in English and are therefore spinning or machine translating content. The more cautious approach taken here on Persona Papers will help to guarantee the quality of content published here. It's easy enough to open up registration periodically, or to allow trusted members to issue invitations, so the community continues to grow and evolve. The important factor is that it be a controlled growth.
