Bubblews is back up

Have you checked out the new Bubblews design yet? They've just done a major upgrade to the code that runs the site, and there's a new look to their user interface as well. Here are a couple of things that stand out so far for me.

First, one thing I really like is that editing is now restored for older posts. Before the upgrade, a post couldn't be edited 24 hours after it was published. That was really frustrating, since the passage of time made some posts inaccurate or irrelevant. I'm really glad to see this change.

The way they handle photos is better, but IMO, still not good enough. In the old design, text overlaid and obscured part of the photo. Now, there is no overlay, but part of the text block sticks up into the bottom of the photo. To my mind, that still devalues the photo.

These are a couple of initial reactions. I do wish they had posted some info about the changes so that users don't have to discover everything by trial and error.

But all in all, I'm encouraged to see them making efforts to improve the site. Now, the real question is, will they improve the way they deal with the writers who invest time and effort there?

We'll see.

It was interesting last night when it was in the early hours of being back on that the team were active there, liking posts and comments, definitely very visible. But I imagine that was a one off for the launch.

RonElFran Well, yes, Bubblews is back up and running. But they are up with new issues now. For one, the pictures were working now they're not. Secondly, it's not formatting properly. What I mean is when I post a poem there it shows up in paragraph form not poem form. So the poem is a waste to read. And it takes a little longer for pages to load now. So, they do have some issues to work out there. I kind of figured there would be problems with the new upgrade. Now I hope they are working to fix these problems. Hopefully they get that together soon. I logged off there because it was driving me crazy. I couldn't get what I wanted done the way I wanted. And to make it worse, we can now edit but not our old posts it seems. I tried changing the picture from a post I did last week and it did not let me. And all the poems that I did post there are now in paragraph form. They look horrible.

Editing is now restored for older posts?
Did not know that. They were having server problems a few hours ago. Maybe I'll check back tomorrow.

Truthfully, I don't use Bubblews for any serious writing. Posting is not planned out. No game plan for making money. It just 400 characters typed if I get the urge. It's not content that could be considered a masterpiece. If I get paid, it's gravy. If not, it's great therapy for clearing my head.

But for folks like you who have written some really worthwhile reading material, I'm glad you'll be able to edit and update your bubbles.

Good write up. Your conclusion regarding the “real question” says it all.

They have lost a lot of writers who will not come back. I will not write for them anymore.

I couldn't agree more. It completely devalues the photo. :(

I saw that post on FB. Out of curiosity I opened. A huge 'ampersand' made its appearance. I logged in. I receive an email welcoming me. The page opened in a haphazard way. I have not posted there yet.

inertia4, I too was having problems with photos, and wrote a post about it. But that issue now seems to be resolved. I didn't actually try to edit an old post and change the photo, so I'm not sure it works. But everything looked as if you could edit old posts, including changing the photo. There are usually bugs with any major roll-out, so I'm willing to give them some time.

I don't know if they are paying more (my 4 posts today earned me 3 cents). But it's encouraging that they are showing views again.

Just took a quick look over there but haven't logged in yet. It does look nice. It's great that we can now edit our older posts.

+1. Good questions. I want to know the answers to these as well. It's good that the site has a new design and all but it would be better if that meant that the earnings have also increased.

When did bubblews EVER give anyone a clue how to use the site? I stopped writing there when they disregarded all our questions after the crash. They well and truly lost my trust and I haven´t felt the least compunction to go back. What would be the point when I don´t know if my earnings would be slashed to almost nothing again because I am an international bubbler?

RonElFran Well, the issue with the photos is fixed and the editing is fine to do. I can edit all my content if I choose to now. I do have another problem, but I did just write a post about it. So you can look for my latest post titled Markdown.

They seem to be paying what they did before the big upgrade, and, sadly, after an initial surge in activity, traffic has dwindled down to what it was before the upgrade and some of the Asian countries that had been excluded have been allowed back in, leading to an increase in plagiarized content. The staff does seem to be more diligent in identifying and eliminating accounts for those folks.
