A New Job

After weeks of considering it, I've decided that the best thing for our family is for me to find a job outside of the home. I'm closing up the home daycare and have already alerted the parents that I was actively looking. I had my initial interview for tomorrow morning, but I had a call this morning from another place and they wanted to interview me today. It was my first interview in 9 years since I've been a stay at home mom for awhile. I ended up landing the job, much to my surprise. I'm thrilled.

It's close by and not an hour away like other typical positions I've applied for, it also seems to be a very comfortable place to work. Not a place that would make one feel very awkward. I think it will be a good fit for me in the end.

Financially and mentally, I think this will be the best decision for us. I've given my daycare parents a 2 week notice and I start my new job on the 29th. Best part is, are that the hours are consistent, day time hours. I'll be done by 5pm every single night, and I'll have my Saturday's off. I'm still accepting 2 of my daycare kids on Saturday's during the summer, but once Fall comes around, I have no intentions of sticking with the Saturday care. Life will be way too busy then.

I'm looking forward to this new chapter in our lives though!

Congratulations on finding a good job, close by. Childcare is VERY hard work, IMHO, and I don't think many people appreciate just how much effort it takes.

Sometimes, it's good to hang out with one's peers(grownups, that is). Being responsible for other people's children can be a lot of pressure. Work the shift, get home and your time is your own. Best of luck with the new job emoticon

Wow. Congratulations! What line of work will you be in? Do you still have all your study work to fit in as well or is that done now? I've been out of the loop with my own job being a bit frazzled, so apologies if you mentioned it and I haven't seen it.

I will still be doing my college courses once Fall rolls around, and am still going after Early Childhood Education as a degree, but while I do that, I'll just be doing Administrative work with a mortgage company

Good for you I hope you will be happy in your new job. Looking after other peoples kids is really hard work and getting out of the home will do you good.

That's a pretty interesting role - I was Branch Admin for an estate agents' (realtor) here in the UK for a couple of years. God luck! Hope it goes well. Do keep us up to date too emoticon

I wish the best for you. Does this job involve children, too? Weren't you homeschooling? What will happen to that?

MaeLou wrote on June 18, 2015, 3:15 PM

No, this is an Administrative position. I probably wont attempt teaching preschool until I'm closer to getting my degree and need it for my portfolio.

Nope, I wasn't homeschooling. I don't think I could ever teach my own kids anyway. They are in the public school system.
