Walking in the beautiful water ... the waves washing over my feet ... I was in a wonderful place in my mind. I was at Miami Beach, Florida.

The warmth of the water felt relaxing ... the sun kissed my blonde curls ... I listened to the music of the sea gulls as they flew overhead. Oh my ... I smiled a smile meant for only myself ... I didn't think of anyone else.

I closed my eyes, felt the ocean breeze caress my skin in the softest way. No better feeling in the world. I was glad I came to the beach.

I came alone ... I didn't have to have anyone come with me anywhere ... I was an independent, young and I might add ... attractive woman! :)

I opened my eyes to take in the beauty around me. People in colorful swim suits ... without thinking ... I just waded in little by little ... with my long, flowing skirt. The material was the thinnest of thin ... delicate, a soft, blue hue. I held my sandals above water in my hand.

I was in the water up to mid-thigh. I didn't realize I had gone out that far. I only meant to get my feet wet by dancing along in the waves. So much for thinking.

The sun played a trick on my eyes ... a cloud passed over it for a brief moment. I saw nothing when I looked again at the water. I just knew it couldn't be a shark ... one 'had to be out in the ocean' to see sharks.

I cried out as I felt pain in my right thigh! It hurt really bad. The thought 'shark!' came back to my mind ... after that I wasn't conscious of what I was thinking.

I could have jumped straight out of the water for all I know ... because in the midst of water splashing, and the sensation of flying ... I found myself safely on the sand ... but, not before seeing the shadow again! The sun wasn't playing tricks on me ... it was a shark I saw! He bumped my leg mid-thigh very hard. I didn't know until I was out of the water on the sand that I was okay. It really hurt!

The shark was probably about 6 ft. long. Even now, I feel cold chills on my body thinking about it. I was fortunate. I've learned since from flying above the ocean in a helicopter ... oh yes! Sharks do come in close to swimmers in the water ... oh my!

There can be a lot of them close to you ... you never know it! I can't take it! In North Carolina where I live ... already there were 2 shark bites 90 minutes apart! This happened yesterday at Oak Island, NC!

Both young people lost an arm each! The attacks weren't far from each other ... 2 miles apart. The 13 year old girl may lose a leg, also. The other victim was a 16 year old boy.

My Heart goes out to both young people who weren't so fortunate ... they will have to begin walking a new journey in life without one of their arms ... possibly a leg, also.

I am so sorry. My words can't express how much I care.

You were bitten by a shark?? Wow.
And such a tragedy about the kids. I hope that they know the story of pro-surfer, Bethany Hamilton, who also was 11-yo when she lost her arm to a shark attack. Hard to believe she is 23 now.

That really happened to you? Thank goodness you didn't die!

I'm glad you came through this unharmed. I'm sure you have gained some awareness not. I feel for the young people who lost limbs. At least they are still alive.

It's just awful. I've been listening to the news, gracious.

That is scary. I love to visit the ocean, but I do not swim in it. I am a big chicken.

What a scary experience! You were lucky the shark did not bite you. I have read about the two kids who lost an arm. This is so sad.
