Seek not the Love of Others

There is a phrase that came to mind the other day; “seek not the love of others but the love within yourself.” I am sure someone famous said this but I have no idea who. I have been meditating on this and what it means. It started out feeling very profound. Like I made it to a new level of understanding. Then I think my ego took over and I found myself feeling very upset, sad, lonely.

I woke this morning to a new understanding of this phrase and what I actually means to me. Do not seek the love of others, but seek the love within your own being. This does not mean I cannot be open to receiving the love of others when it is freely given . It does not mean being resigned to a life of loneliness and despair. It means my happiness is not dependent on someone else. The love of others is fleeting, changing and easily lost. However when love and happiness are sourced from with in your own soul, it can never be taken away from you. There is a certain amount of freedom in this.

Yeah, some deep work going on here!

That is very true what you are saying.
