Seeking Out Those Food Bargains

Like many couples, my partner and I sometimes find it a struggle to pay all the bills . This has instilled in us a new outlook when shopping, and we are always on the lookout for a bargain. We live close to a huge supermarket, where we often harvest a tidy haul of foods that are being sold off cheap as they are close to their expiry dates. Bread is particularly abundant in these sell offs, and many is the time we have stacked our freezer with all kinds, from bloomers to baguettes.
Last night, my partner snaffled a bagful of assorted breads, including six ciabatta rolls for only NINE PENCE. To use these up, I concocted a lunch of pizza style ciabatta rolls with potato wedges (pictured),with baked beans on the side, as there was no room on the plates. I had cheese, tomato, mushroom and sweetcorn on my pizzas – they were well tasty and every bit as good as those frozen pizza topped baguettes from the supermarket .
So we used up food that was earmarked for the tip, and cut our costs too – win, win.

I am a complete bloodhound when it comes to sniffing out food bargains. All the soup I made last week was from reduced to clear items and I never pay full price for my pitta breads or sandwich thins either. Good to hear I'm not alone in my obsession.
