The World Has Lost a Legendary Mind

The world lost a brilliant legend today. Dr. John Nash Jr., the subject of the film A Beautiful Mind, was killed along with his wife when the taxi they were riding in crashed in New Jersey. He was 86 years old. Nash was known as the genius mathematician who won the Nobel Price for his work in game theory while in college, and for his struggles with hallucinations and paranoia. Despite his struggles and spending time in psychiatric hospitals for treatment - Nash eventually recovered enough to teach and lecture. He credited his recovery not to the medications or electroshock treatments he received but to sheer willpower.

Dr. Nash and his wife, Alicia, are survived by a son, John Nash III who also battles schizophrenia. Dr. Nash is also survived by another son - John David Stier.

Such a shame. I haven't seen the film but have heard of it and intend to watch it some time.

I heard about this yesterday - it is very sad. The movie based on his life was very good.

That is awful that happened. I pray for their sons. I do not think I have seen that movie.

I didn't know anything about John Nash before the coverage of his death. His story certainly seems to be an inspiring one - overcoming schizophrenia and winning a Nobel Prize. Yes, it is a big loss.

Fabulous story/movie. I need to watch it again, as it's been awhile.
