Big (Little) Brother Is Watching You

A few weeks ago, I stopped in to see what had been happening in the land of bubbles. I decided to write and post an inquiry, "What's the Word Here at Bubblews?"

It seems that when "Bubblews" is in the title, there are more who read and comment. People are curious, when it comes to the state of affairs at the site. I have received a fair amount of comments there. I try to respond to all as a courtesy.

I did receive a comment from the site's Marketing Director, Barrett "Bear" Barnes, stating: "We are still here. Watching, reading and listening."

I chose not to respond, because I tend to over-react to him, annoyed by his presentation of self in his biography and how he comments. I do not know why he bothers me so. Perhaps, there is something in him that I see in myself?

Today, I stopped back in to see if I had missed anything, and I began to reread the comments on that particular post. I came across his unanswered comment and a response that was not so steeped in annoyance at him came to mind.

"(*laughs*) Sounds like the NSA today. And those back in the day who were looking to identify Communists here in the USA. And the Stasi in East Germany."

I thought it a brilliant comeback response (if I do say so myself), which I needed to share. (Is this what I see in myself that I do not like in him?)

As I reread my comment, I could not help but wonder about the modicum of truth. I did not intend to compare them, but simply made that observation of his word choice and was trying to be funny.

Yet, I am reminded of the stories of people speaking out and having their comments, articles, and profile pages deleted. Some have shared that the reasons cited were for "unfairness" and "disrespect" of those in power at the site.

It certainly reminds me of the stories I have heard from friends who were living on the wrong side of Berlin when WWII was over, or born before the Berlin Wall came down. Stories that were reality.

I have read countless tales of those who were in this country and being spied on for Communist ties. I grew up during the Cold War, raised by people who lived during the wars with Germany, Japan and Korea. I remember the drills in elementary school to prepare us for if or when the USSR was to "push the red button." We were taught to be uber-sensitive to wrong-doings and blow the whistle when we saw suspicious activity.

Of course, I would see Bear's comment and come up with the response I did. I do not, however, believe that they are looking for violations of their rules of acceptable interaction and word choice.

But I do find it a curious choice. Just as they might find my response to be just as curious, if they do not jump to conclusions that I should be quieted. I am not too worried about it, either way.

Or, maybe, I should be?

Curious and I don't quite know how to respond. A different comment came to mind, one that is particular to Northern Ireland but which may have travelled more widely, "They haven't gone away, you know" A slightly different context from looking for "reds under the bed" but chilling (to me) nevertheless.

Thanks for your interesting post about B and wondering about why writers and their posts vanish. I think it's important to observe these things.

It wont be any loss if they do delete you I guess. But I even put my link to here in a post there and I can still log in. So they are not watching all of them lol

Part of me thinks they AREN'T still there, given that one "featured bubble" stayed "featured" for six days (and I know there are still quality writers left at the B-place, enough to not justify changing the "featured bubbles" out more than once a week). Still, I know too many people who have complained about having posts and comments critical of them deleted. When they replied to the BBB complaints and asked for e-mail addresses, I know a lot of people who refused to respond because they heard of people who DID provide that information having their accounts deleted for "terms of service violations."

If you look at the current Alexa Bubblews information available to the general public, currently the site receives only 10 percent of its visitors from the U.S. The vast bulk are from India, with a smattering from other lands. One recent featured post (Admin tech) indicates they're spending a lot of time patching the mechanics of the site, but that's rather like patching a sinking boat with silly putty.

The site seems to have become more active lately.

I don't know how Bubblews is going on ,because I have been unable to log in for quite some time .It is said that they do so for cutting back on bubblers.

I don't think that any of us are all that different, though there are the peculiar little nuances.

Observation is key to knowledge. If we want to learn, we have to notice.

CoralLevang wrote on May 26, 2015, 4:12 PM

*laughs* wolfgirl569 I don't know if I should take that as an insult or not. LOL

CoralLevang wrote on May 26, 2015, 4:13 PM

Who knows? There hasn't been enough consistency there since they began, even when paying out big redemptions.

CoralLevang wrote on May 26, 2015, 4:14 PM

I did see that. I also like the picture you painted. Maybe if they lift comic pages with it first, people will have something to laugh about, as they go down with the ship?

CoralLevang wrote on May 26, 2015, 4:15 PM

I have noticed that, too. I think it might be a new group of followers, and not the old ones.

CoralLevang wrote on May 26, 2015, 4:16 PM

Perhaps, it is from where you log in that is the issue? I don't know. It's up for me. But I do not go there often.

wolfgirl569 wrote on May 26, 2015, 9:42 PM

insult to them not you. emoticon

They say it is due to google 's pulling out of China .Maybe it is true, because each time I log in ,it always shows" being connecting to .com ".

For me the sequence was (1) receive notification that Bubblews hadn't sent and didn't intend to send the payments *that the system had reported as sent*, (2) pull down my articles, (3) publicize what a rip-off Bubblews turned out to be. I hope other people are being prudent enough to take these steps in order too.
