Vita! iOS app - reminders for a better lifestyle

Regular readers will know that for me to review an it has to be special. However, Joshua Burton’s Vita! app is just that.

The Vita! app allows users to work with elements the human race all require to live well, such as , and light. These are the basics to life itself, which allow us to continue to live and exist in harmony with our surroundings, the earth and even each other.

Paying attention to what an app like this is telling you can bring you improved health, better work-life balance and give you much needed recharging opportunities in the average busy lifestyle today. This app reminds you to drink water, take and enjoy fresh air plus the vitamin D found in to lift your mood and feel better about yourself. Trust me, this approach works. Taking a bottle of water outside and walking at lunchtime gets you out of your cubicle or office and allows you to process the morning’s thoughts as well as ticking the ‘exercise’, ’air’ and ‘hydration’ boxes on the app. What’s more, you will be reminded to take the necessary exercise and hydration at the appropriate time.

The best thing about the Vita! app is that you can tailor it to your preferences. You may find that when the reminder goes off it feels like a bad time to take a break and concentrate on yourself and your needs for a while, but when you’ve had that break you will likely realize that it was a good time to regroup, change focus, rehydrate, get up and move after all.

If you’re one of these people, like me, who spends hours in front of a screen, Vita! could be the ideal you need to move a little more. That 10 minutes an hour you’re supposed to spend away from your screen? Here’s your reminder. When the alarm goes off, walk away from your screen, go connect with a colleague. Walk one lap of the department if it’s raining outside. Visit the kitchen two floors up to use the water dispenser there, perhaps. Go stand outside somewhere and simply breathe in the fresh air instead of the air conditioned re-circulated office air. For those who need to motivate themselves, Vita! is perfect for letting you set, reach, adjust and improve your targets, as well as reminding you to take time for yourself to achieve them in the first place.

The app is easy to operate; users confirm goals either by means of a slider on the home page or through the notification center. There is a video for new users and analytics using percentages to keep you on track to achieving your chosen goals, plus tips, tricks and benefits to help you get there.

Vita! is great for people who don’t have the time or spare finances for a gym membership, or for those who need to be reminded to get up and start taking some of the 10,000 steps we are all supposed to take per day for optimum health. Vita! is only available on iOS, at least at the moment. Guess I am just going to have to lay out for an iDevice to run it on, then.

I´m thinking of getting a smart phone so maybe I´ll be using apps soon too. I don´t know if I could be bothered doing what you are, but there´s no doubt it's good advice for many of us.

Yes, I'm an Android user too. But I have been looking at getting an iPod touch for some of my music (as my 1st gen iPod is now full) and I could also use that to review apps on.

Something needs to change in my life, for sure. And I don't have the spare money for a gym membership right now either.
