To monetize or not...that is the question!!

When I set up my , I had two goals in mind.

One, to have all my and scattered over various sites under one roof and the other of course was to earn some .

To my blog, I searched around and decided to use two sources.

One is # Chitika and the other one is . They are both very easy to use and are not fussy about how long the blog has been in existence or how much it is getting.

It was quite easy to integrate the codes and the earning reports are not a nightmare to make sense of. (My earning so far from my 3 weeks old blog is $0.00 so one does not need to be an Einstein to read the reports)

But for me the biggest drawback for using # Chitika and # Infolinks is how annoying the ads look on the blog posts.

Words are underlined, changed to different colors and some ads slide in and out constantly. Though we have some control over how the ads appear but still their presence makes the blog look terrible.

I am seriously considering removing all from my blog posts and just use the blog as a home for my creative writing.

Have you any experience with these networks. Are they worth pursuing?

I haven't ventured on my own yet. Best of luck on monetizing your blog.

Thank you motrojam . I have seen you on many sites. Are you writing regularly for any site nowadays?

I've only used Adsense, and with more success in the past than recently.

I haven't tried those services, but I use Adsense. I can understand how that would be annoying, if the ads are too intrusive. (It's not like I make any money though lol)

I tried monetization but the results were awful. The look of the blog was destroyed and irritation quotient introduced by the ad networks was very high -- with no real monetization result. It also changed my focus from teh actual blog and writing to a preoccupation with monetization. So I removed it all.

I am still giving finishing touches to my blog. My aim is to go for forums that deal with the subject of my blog.I am planning on posting my blog link there. I already got permission of one forum to post. I will give myself 6 months to see how the viewing of my blog is. Then and only then will I think of monetizing it. As valmnz had suggested. May be one day I could collect all my writings into a book.
It is better to get views from those who are interested in your subject than those on FB, Twitter and such who have no interest in what you have written and yet click.

They were using Chitika here on PP, and it was pretty horrible. Not sure what they are using now. I already had an AdSense account, so I added that when Google deemed that my blog was ready for it.

I've always wanted to create a blog myself but never got around doing it. No idea if getting those services is worth it. I'll defer to those who have actual blogs and have monetized their blogs to some extent. Anyway, good luck!

Monetizing is not a bad idea, but some forms of them can be quite annoying. I would believe the underlines words would come from infolinks, but I am not 100% sure. I would recommend turning off one of the advertisers and seeing if your blog looks better. If not, turn it back on and turn the other off. If neither looks satisfactory to you, then you can just remove both. If you still wish to monetize, looking at Amazon might be an idea, I find their ads aren't quite as invasive or distracting.

I also use chitika for my blogs and yes sometimes the ads don't look nice. I prefer Google adsense as the ads tend to blend in more.
