Do We Sometimes Talk Ourselves Out of Doing Things?

Self belief is an important quality, but often one that many of us find difficult to hold onto. We simply don't believe in ourselves enough at times. Think of how many times you've wanted to try something new, something you've never done before, but then talked yourself out of it. A little voice inside us seems to keep popping up, shouting don't be silly, you can't do that, you're just not capable. Well, I've heard that voice many times over the years and I've slowly learned to tame it a little. I've ben lucky to have people around me who believe in me, consequently instilling a stronger belief in myself. Now, when I become passionate about something I give myself a chance. Let's face it, the only way we know if we can do something or not is to simply have a go. We can only achieve things by trying. So, if you have something you really want to do, don't just dream about it. Think of ways to make it possible. Give yourself a chance. The best way to do that is by believing in yourself. #confidence belief

That's something I do all the time but then I often talk myself back into doing it anyway!

Kasman good on you. Funnily, I've been better at this since I stopped working fulltime.

It's not simply about believing in yourself. You also have to be willing to risk failure. Like Stallone put it in "Rocky Balboa"... "It's not about how hard you can hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." There will be times when things don't work out as planned and you have to be willing to accept, live with, and move on from that. While self-belief or self-confidence play into one's ability to do that, that's not all there is to it.

morilla i agree, but getting started is the moving factor. Even following a small personal dream needs that first step to be taken.

I do this all the time. I'm a quiet person and getting myself out of my comfort zone really scares me even though I know that things won't change unless I change it myself. It's just a constant contradictory state. Like 'I should do it but I don't want to do it'.

I do weigh the pros and cons, but once I have decided on something, I don't change my mind.

I am an achiever I could say. I gave up my lucrative job with everyone around raising their eyebrows that provided me with the time to do so many things such as learning to swim, learning the abc of computers, going on a foreign holiday my first one, learning German........ . I designed my own house and saw to its completion surely something that needs courage.
As I have commented elsewhere the only thing I need to do now is to write a book (lol)

I do all the time. Self doubt can be a strong thing, it's good to overcome it!

My inner voice tells me to try new things all the time. I usually end up biting more things I can chew (in terms of chores, social activities and promises) and then run around in a harassed way battling fatigue and sleeplessness:-) I need to tame that inner voice emoticon

Yes, we do talk ourselves out of doing things but we also talk ourselves into doing things at other times.

Agreed, too many times, we let self-doubt control us whereas we should be the first and foremost fan of ourselves!
