Escalating xenophobic violence in SA

So the violence started in Durban and spread to Johannesburg. South Africa, once considered to be the perfect rainbow nation is now battling to get a new wave of xenophobic attacks under control. South Africa as leaders on the continent have worked hard to unite all African countries but all the hard work is starting to unravel. Malawians are now calling for a boycott of South African goods and this idea seems to be gaining momentum in the UK. You may be confused as to why this is happening but with 25% unemployment many native South Africans feel that jobs opportunities are being taken by foreigners. I do understand their thinking BUT the violence is not acceptable. Yes the government should look after their own first however people have come to South Africa for a better life. These refugees need to be treated like human beings. Women and children have been forced from their homes and spent the night on the streets. Really, this is unacceptable. The government needs to act fast and come up with a creative way to solve this problem.

Wow, that's a lot of unemployment! We have the same xenophobia here in America, however it has not erupted in violence on the whole (thankfully.)

Yes. Heard a report about this situation. Mandela must be crying in his grave. South Africa is so beautiful. But what good is all that natural beauty and those wonderful resources without peace? Eruptions like these can't be viewed as isolated incidents. If one part of the world is hurting, other parts can feel the ripple effects. Violence knows no boundaries and shows no mercy. Praying for South Africa.

This is really very sad. People are always so quick to get angry and take out their frustration and anger in violent ways. I hope sanity prevails and things get under control soon.
