A Night at the Opera (Soon!)
Today is my sweetie's birthday - yes, Tax Day, no less, which makes it easy for me to always remember!
Of course he always says not to get him anything, but yeah right. Not going to listen to that. We've been planning a long weekend in New York City in a few weeks to get in some art exhibits and a mini-vacation. So last night I purchased us a pair of tickets for the Metropolitan Opera for the Friday night we'll be in town for his birthday gift.
Neither of us have been to an opera in years and he's never seen one at The Met, which is definitely an experience! When my mother lived in NYC, while she was in law school and then in practice, she took me lots of times to The Met to introduce me to opera and classical music. I always enjoyed it as a child: the spectacle, the costumes, the drama, and of course the sweeping music and singing! She would even get me a copy of the opera libretto a few weeks in advance so I could read the story and know what was happening even if the dialog was all in Italian, German or French.
This time we're going to see Igor Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress , which will certainly be a change of pace from the operas I've generally seen in the past. But I've got a bug in my ear to hear more Stravinsky lately and modern-era operas in general. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it and the trip in general.
