Are You on Pinterest?

Remember when Pinterest first came out and it was all the rage? I do!! Started March 2010; 5 years later, now it's worth over $3 billion.

I've been with Pinterest almost from the beginning and they have allowed me to grow along. People used to say you had to be invited. Not me! Went straight to the site and begged!! They reviewed me, approved me and it's been a fun ride. Still riding holding on to their coat-tails. Started out as a personal account but later they invited to convert to a free business account. The invitation was accepted.

As of today (April 10, 2015) my profile shows 51 boards; that includes group boards. If you're on Pinterest you know what group boards are. Some people are Pinterest-crazy! Others? Not so much. Me? Love it! Tell you why? Before Pinterest, my collections were so disorganized. But now? Out of the 50+ boards these are the “Top Ten” boards that appear to enjoy a measure of popularity.

  • ALL THINGS TEXAS!
  • Legends, Myths, Fables, Folklore, Culture
  • Mother Africa
  • Places I'd Like to Go
  • Movies and Music
  • The Bahamas
  • Everyday Exotic Spices
  • ARTISTS I Fancy!
  • Native Americans
  • Black History Tribute

Some folks don't enjoy Pinterest. I respect that.

As for me? Pinning my heart out!!!

I do share occasional posts from here and other sites on Pinterest, but not on a regular basis. I haven't been there for ages. Glad to hear you enjoy it so much.

I have not been there forever. Forget about it even. Glad you enjoy it so much

I have never joined the site and only visited once or twice, but I never understood the draw.

I've been on there for a year or so, but I haven't figured out what to do there. I suppose I should work on it one of these days.

I don't have a much time for Pinterest as I used to. The big problem is that to be re-pinned, you have to be active when other people are, and I seem to never have time until after midnight Pacific. I get busy during the day and forget. Maybe after taxes.

I have been on Pinterest for a number of years and it still confuses the heck out of me lol I have a number of boards and my images do get 'repinned' now and then but I have no idea if that is of any value :)

mine is like a jungle, all messed up. I don't categorize them well. Just pinned the pictures and leave them there.

valmnz , wolfgirl569 , Soonerdad3 , oneoveralpha , BarbRad , agvulpes , peachpurple – Great feedback! Pinterest is a collector's paradise. However, businesses have used the tool to build their brand, gain customers, and increase sales. It has worked for them. Worked so well, in fact, that at one time Google was worried about losing advertising revenues because Pinterest was cutting into their lion's share. For an insignificant home business worker like myself? I enjoy the collecting of items that interest me. But if my pins can translate into sales and/or revenue? That's gravy! So I mix in affiliate links since they allowed me to convert my personal account to a business account. When I tried to use affiliate links on my personal account, I was reported for "spamming". I think. I THINK that's what happened. But ever since I've had the business account, I have not been contacted about a spamming complaint. So far, pinning is a good thing for me!

cmoneyspinner I am sure there are great uses for the site or it would not have caught on and grown as large as it has.

Have you checked out Kasman 's PP Pinterest board?

MegL - I wasn't invited to join Pinterest either - I just joined up and nobody said a word! I have let my Pinterest account languish somewhat recently. I really must start using it again.

There was some talk a while back about Pinterest being in breach of copyright since Pinterest allows you to pin images from anywhere without asking permission. Still not sure about that.

I pin some of my website images to drive traffic but other than that I don't use it.

It is the first time I hear of the Pinterest. You seem to be their senior user and be at the top of the pile there .

cmoneyspinner wrote on April 13, 2015, 4:23 PM

Kasman - It appears Pinterest obtained legal counsel and ironed out the kinks in their pinning process. ( Either that or they'll ride the wave until they slapped with a lawsuit and run out of business. Hey! It happens!! LOL. The business world is a ruthless rat race. )

"Senior" as in old? Then, I'm probably eligible for that group of users. No way I'm even close to being at the top of pile.

Kasman wrote on April 13, 2015, 4:43 PM

The 'kink' in their pinning process was the fact that copyrighted images were being pinned (reproduced) without permission. This is a real concern for many professional photographers. I found this article on HubPages:

http :// greekgeek . hubpages . com / hub / Is - Pinterest - a - Haven - for - Copyright - Violations

it concisely explains why Pinterest does in many cases (but not all) breach copyright laws. It also links to other interesting articles on Pinterest and copyright.

PS: Pinterest's own terms of use forbid anyone to pin a copyrighted image.
