I Need A Name For My Panda!

Isn't he adorable (yes, he is a he, I've decided) and, believe it or not, this cute little pencil case now has all my Derwent pencils in there..all 27 of them, plus an eraser and pencil sharpener! In fact, I can fit in another 10 pencils in if I wish to buy some more, but I have bought another (identical) pencil case for my Staedtler pencils so I can do away with the awful box they are in at the moment. That will come next week. Good old Ebay!

For the life of me, though, I cannot think of a name for my male panda. He's gotta have a name, right? The next one I receive will most definitely be a female, but, the breeding season for pandas is - alas - very short, so I don't think baby pandas will be on the horizon anytime soon!

Can you tell it's Friday? Good isn't it? I always love Fridays despite having a horrendous sore throat and not feeling the benefits of it being 21°C outside. In actual fact, I'm wearing my 'woolly ganzee' as Dad would call it and my hands are like icicles, they are so cold!

Please feel free to think of a male panda name for my pencil case. Obviously, it has to be Chinese like Tai Shan or something. Mmm, now there's a thought lol.

I don't know anything about male Chinese names. So, I did a search on a Chinese baby name for boys web site. They gave list of names and I picked one at random. It is: Zhi Ming. I hope this helps.

How about Chao Xing. Chao means Excellent and Xing means successful. Got it from this site. Or you could probably change it round and use Xing Chao

Are you sure it's a he? If it was a girl you could name her after the female panda at Edinburgh Zoo. Her name is Tian Tian which means 'sweetie'. Cute, huh? The male is called 'Yang Guang' which means 'sunshine'.

I have never heard of naming a pencil case, but hang on.....let me consult with the kids. . . . . . . . Ok, they say Poe. They are totally into Kung Fu Panda right now. Sorry I don't have any better suggestions for you. Good luck to you and your panda :)

Thanks. You have no idea how many pencil cases I've been looking at online lately! I kept dithering over the Panda but I'm glad I got there in the end!

To be honest, I was a bit upset when Tian Tian was moved - I think she used to be in the National Zoo at Washington DC? I watched her a lot on webcams when she was in Washington. I'm not surprised she hasn't got pregnant yet..probably too stressed. I'd be stressed if I lived in Edinburgh (joke) lol.

Poe was my favourite Poe it is! Thanks so much! I think it's sweet you got the kids involved there. 100% for effort!♥

These two pandas came direct from China. There is a 'panda cam' where you can watch them 24/7. Go here:

If you didn't say ,I would never guess it was a pencil case .If you ask me ,we name him "huanhuan",which means delight in Chinese.Hope it will bring a lot of happiness and delight to your life !

What a lovely name, thank you. I have two of these pencil cases now so at least Poe (the name I've given for the first one) now has a friend, that I have named La-La. Both are Teletubbies characters.
