Testing my students
It is that happy time of year again. The time where teachers have sharp pencils and a stack of booklets that feel like will determine their future are well as their students. Testing week! I have passed out these lovely white booklets to my kids and sit here watching them as they read page after page. Thankfully I do not teach at a school that puts great emphasis on these tests. It is one of many parts that assesses the child. I used to teach at a school where my job was on the line if they did not do well. So much so that we felt we had to teach the test. Not to say we did but we felt it was heading that way. I did not talk up the tests much with my kiddos. I told them it will not be graded by me but sent to a company. I told them there would be questions they would not know and to make your best guess. I also told them that in my 14 years of teaching no child has every gotten a 100. I know it is not graded like that but that is a way for them to understand. They have not taken stats in college so this is a way for them to connect this test to their weekly math test or spelling test. Over the next two weeks we will spend an hour and a half drudging through these pages! Wish me luck! Or better yet wish them success!
