Amazon Home Services - Your handyman on the web

Amazon has announced a new service they are calling Amazon Home Services . This is an online portal where you can have a variety of small things done around your house by local (and vetted) handymen for a price. I typed in my area code, and found I can have a playset put together for $100 to $200 dollars. Or I can have a home theatre projector installed and mounted for $99.

Not yet available throughout the US, it is in 41 states currently. This could be a great way for a startup local contractor to get some extra business and an established name. Or someone looking for some side income who has the skills needed.

Not everyone can join though - they run all contractors through a background check and only those who are invited can participate. Taking vital business information like state registrations, liens, judgements or bankruptcies are all considered when someone is joining. Not only that, the technician themselves must pass a background check.

They even have a price match guarantee .

It sounds like it will be a great way to find help. Glad they are doing background checks instead of just letting anyone list there

I heard about this on the Today Show this morning, sounds interesting. Nice to see they do background checks, let's hope they are thorough background checks and they just aren't saying it.
