Yesterday was a Hang Out the Laundry Kind of Day
Yesterday brought seventy degree temps and sunshine. Oh the warm sunshine was glorious. I washed a load of clothes yesterday morning and hung them up to dry. It was the first for this year. Since it was the first day of spring, I suppose that it was very appropriate for the day. My grandmother always hung up her laundry as she never had a dryer. I remember standing on a galvanized steel wash tub to help her hang laundry. She had one of those cloth bags that hung from the line and you had to push it along as you hung each piece. I was always fascinated with her old fashioned under garments. They were so daunting. Those brassiers looked like they could withstand a nuclear explosion. My grandmother was a tough old bird. She could carry just about anything. She used to carry her babies (one of them my dad) in a sling while picking cotton. She would take paper bags down to the creek to pick poke salad. Folks know it now as spring mix. Well, I just wanted you to know that yesterday was a glorious day...a day for hanging out laundry and recalling fond memories.
