Here We Go Again- More Flowers!!Mothers Day.

I have never believed in Mothers Day ! I am not a misery,I don't mind what others do but I find it too,too smarmy. Mothers being used for commercial sales. Why don't we have every Sunday a 'Cook Dinner For Mother's Day'.I realise that would be impossible for the hundreds who live miles from home, but it sounds nice..

It would at least be useful and maybe get the family together.

I am sure my children are made to feel guilty by their friends as they know I don't have any wish for flowers or chocolates,Their company, though, I welcome always,obviously..

Do you believe in Mothers day, or do you just accept it ?

Love to hear others views-but no shouting at me please!!!

I like the idea of a special day for mothers but hate all of the commercialism that comes with any holiday anymore

I'm more happy to have the company than presents on these occasions....and cards are a rip off!

maxeen wrote on March 17, 2015, 4:41 PM

That is the centre of what I meant, the dreaded commercialism of it ..

maxeen wrote on March 17, 2015, 4:46 PM

Exactly ! A pleasant visit is much more preferable ,how right you are about the cards.

Mothers Day is always lovely but it's really just an excuse to get us spending isn't it?!

wolfgirl569 wrote on March 17, 2015, 7:24 PM

It does get tiring, hearing and seeing all the ads, we dont end one holiday before the next one is started anymore

maxeen wrote on March 17, 2015, 7:45 PM

That's right ,hope you enjoyed ! Anyway....

Their company is all I really want and doing something together like hiking or skiing. Or dinner. I never need a gift really.

I do not believe in days dedicated to different entities - mother, father, senior............ Every day needs to be dedicated. Full stop.

I really love the idea of maybe every Sunday Cook just because of our lovely mothers.I don't fully support the once in a while Mother's day as it is currently

I like to get a card for mothers day, but don´t expect my daughter to go to the expense of buying me anything other than that.

I do not believe in Mother's Day, but my mum gets jealous when she sees her friends getting flowers or gifts from their children.

SLGarcia wrote on March 18, 2015, 10:40 AM

To me it can be a day to do something special for one's mother (or mother figure). Being a mother and grandmother, I have never every received flowers. I agree with you in that the commercial aspect of it is unacceptable to me.

arthurchappell wrote on March 18, 2015, 12:11 PM

I find it crassly commercial but I know my mum would be disappointed if I didn't get her something - we need a Son's Day now lol

LadyDuck wrote on March 18, 2015, 1:08 PM

I hate every commercial day imposed just to sell more stuff, Mother's day is not an exception.

crowntower wrote on March 18, 2015, 2:08 PM

Lol! I don't think anyone would not like the idea... I think for me is not a commercialized thing... I think it helps a lot of people to remember their mothers who forgot about them after they have grown... Heheheh... I think my mom will always love to hear something or received something from us every mother's day. God bless. Mother's day is the best so we can thank you in a little way for raising us with all their love and too much sacrificial.

maxeen wrote on March 18, 2015, 5:10 PM

Exactly! What could be better than as you described..

maxeen wrote on March 18, 2015, 5:12 PM

Well I think so! Yes! Can you give an example ?

maxeen wrote on March 18, 2015, 5:13 PM

Wow! I may make a new law for the world! Most seem to agree, so far!

maxeen wrote on March 18, 2015, 5:15 PM

You will be seeing more of your Daughter soon when you return? Or am I wrong, if she lives elsewhere..

maxeen wrote on March 18, 2015, 5:17 PM

I well remember that time,my Mother and Father brought me up to not believe in it, but there were occasions when I think she was a tiny bit sorry she had done .

maxeen wrote on March 18, 2015, 5:19 PM

#arthurchappel ,can you believe I actually saw a "Dogs Day"... I ask you, what next arthur ?

That is more like it.Give us mothers your company....

maxeen wrote on March 18, 2015, 5:25 PM

It seems we mostly all dislike the commercialism of the days that are celebrated

maxeen wrote on March 18, 2015, 5:31 PM

Well there you are!! I thought we had won!! I suppose if we like it for being a sort of Mother's (Womans)Day. That is good -make it a day for company/phonecall if not near! Truly I don't think there are many days go by when folk, men as well as Women, don't think of parents...

Our day to day dealings with all around us should be with the thought that they are all worthy of our attention.

AliCanary wrote on March 18, 2015, 7:07 PM

We used to enjoy celebrating it, bringing Mom breakfast in bed and all that. I think it's useful to have a holiday where kids AREN'T the focus--it teaches them to give. My mom passed away some years ago, unfortunately, and it's still hard to deal with all the damned advertisements emoticon :crying:

Hollyhocks100 wrote on March 19, 2015, 8:07 AM

No, you are spot on, and she´s already planning to take me to lunch next year on mothers day emoticon

maxeen wrote on March 19, 2015, 10:29 AM

See! I do have those special powers-haha.. hope you have lots of fun...Great to be out with ones kids...
