How to mute individual tabs in Google Chrome

Who doesn't like to listen to online music? I frequently have YouTube or Spotify running in a tab somewhere playing my favorite songs. However, when viewing pages that contain advertisements sometimes you get a rather annoying voice that interrupts your music. Up until now, our only option was to close the offending tab. No longer.

If you are using Google Chrome, in your address bar you can type the following:

chrome://flags/#enable-tab-audio-muting

This will bring you to an option that will enable an icon when audio is playing in that particular tab. Then you can mute those annoying ads without having to close out completely.

I wish Firefox had this--I like to work with multiple tabs open, but they don't even let you know which tab is doing the fussing!

Thank you. Although the sentiment doesn't seem to agree. A ratio of 7 to 1 seems low for such a good tip:)

I don't use Firefox but if they do I will see if I can find out how and post about it.

No problem. Used it myself today when visiting a site. Very helpful I believe.

This is very useful for those that like listening to music and that use the Google Chrome internet browser. Now, it's easy to mute things they don't want to hear like annoying ads with sounds.
