I Went Back to Kindergarten Today

I have had a fun morning! I volunteered to be a "guest reader" at Hunter Elementary School here in Greensboro for their celebration of Dr. Seuss Day. All the kids (and many of the teachers) were dressed in various Seuss-related costumes, and we were all given striped Cat in the Hat hats to wear. I didn't know what grade I was going to read to, but when I got to the school, I found out that I would be reading to a kindergarten class!

Oh, what fun! They were so adorable, listening wide-eyed as I read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish with gusto. After we were finished with the book, we chatted a little bit about silly things like fish that drove cars and how many feet an octopus has, and then I got to hand out special colorful pencils decorated with Dr. Seuss characters. And I even got a little goodie bag myself, for being a volunteer. It was such a fun experience!

I never went to Kindergarten. Perhaps this is something I could volunteer to do and it would be my way to be a kindergartener. It sounds like it was so much fun!

AliCanary Great! A recording would have been nice, but I settle for a written post emoticon :winking: It is so nice to be around little kids, they fill you with their energy, don't they?

I think you should definitely do it--it just fills your heart with joy! I've always enjoyed volunteering--even doing yucky stuff like cleaning things is fun when you're working with a bunch of nice people emoticon

Oh, it was brilliant. I don't think I'd be able to be a teacher every day, but this volunteer gig was just perfect for that dose of energy (and cuteness)!

We do not have opportunities of the kind you just experienced. I would have loved to spend time with the kids. I get to however do that when I throw a party for poor kids at Christmas time.

Cool :) I can't wait to volunteer at my daughter's school when she starts but I don't want to read lol. I think I'd rather do the little holiday parties emoticon
