Back To the Grind After laptop Problems

As some people may or may have not noticed, I’ve been absent from Persona Paper for a few weeks. I’d like to hasten to add it was not out of choice, but rather because of laptop problems.

My problems with my laptop started with me having a coffee accident on the keyboard sometime towards the end of last year. Yes, that dreaded moment when you accidentally spill a liquid substance on your machine. –and worse still, a HOT liquid substance! I honestly didn’t think it would cause so much trouble as it was a very small amount in the corner of the keyboard! It was panic stations as my husband and I ran around like headless chickens trying to salvage my MacBook Pro. We followed all the instructions on Google and managed to get it to work for a while. In hindsight, we probably should never have switched it on, no matter how dry, before having someone with the expertise look at it!

This incident appears to have spelt the beginning of the end for the machine. The night before it finally packed up; it was overheating way more than is acceptable. I was able to work on it all night, but the next morning it wouldn’t fire up!

We took it to two different places and the verdict? The logic board had gone and needed replacing. Both guys quoted us an eye-watering fee, even suggesting we secure a new laptop, as logic boards are very expensive.

In the end we got a second hand one via eBay UK, and it finally arrived last week. It was a very long and winding road. But to cut a very long story short, a very kind friend offered to bring it back for us; truly an angel on earth. I can’t even begin to explain how much of a nightmare being without a laptop is. Now that I’m doing a lot of online work, it’s even worse. I just can’t be without my laptop, not even for a day. When you’re broke, can’t get a job and your only means of an income is online work, your laptop is your very life. Today, just on the basis of my having my laptop back; life is good and I’m glad to be back writing on Persona Paper. Now if I can just think of some interesting writing ideas!

I found this post very interesting! It's amazing how quickly we have become dependent upon technology to live our lives. Deprive us of it and we are, as you say 'headless chickens'. emoticon

It's been a nightmare. I had to borrow a friend's notebook in order to do some online work. However, it wasn't in very good working order, and I couldn't have written some articles on it. It's pure bliss being able to actually write again and to have a working laptop :)

do be careful not to spill coffee over your laptop, it is not thirsty.

Hehe you should see how far from my laptop my liquids are kept! I'm not taking any chances.
