Journal 03-01-2015

Good morning or whatever part of the day it is for you. Today is March 1, 2015. Where did February go? The temperature is 59.1°F and the humidity is 76% at 9:46 a.m. PST (-8 GMT). Weather Underground shows sustained winds at 0.7 with gusts of 2.2 mph. It’s overcast and rained a bit overnight. It fell rather short of the storm the news has been warning us about, though. Weather Underground is predicting a 50% chance of precipitation and a high of 61 today.

I have to say that my maid of honor—let me call her Dora—threw me one find bridal shower yesterday. There were about 10 people. Goodies, drinks (including champagne), balloons, games and silliness. Mostly silliness. Sadly, though, she got called away because of a family emergency. He mother is in the beginning stages Alzheimer’s and her stepfather has a host of chronic medical conditions.

What I didn’t know is that he also has cancer. Earlier in the week, he suffered a fall and was recovering in a nursing home. During the shower, Dora got a call (I learned later) that he’d contracted an infection and was at the point where they were discussing turning off life support. She left. As it turned out, they later returned him to hospice care. None of this I knew during the time of the shower. She wanted everyone to have a good time.

Dora gave the keys to the clubhouse where the shower was to mutual friends, to whom she also confided the whole situation.

How generous not only the people who brought me some nifty shower gifts, but the whole shower was wonderful. I wish it has not happened at such a terrible time for my friend Dora, though. I feel horrible for her, not only that she and her family are going through this sad time, but that she had the added burden of putting together the shower during the time. At least she had friend to help her and she wasn’t alone in taking care of the shower.

Got no writing done, only a little reading. Got a lot of eating done, though.

Thanks for reading. Hope you and yours are all well and happy. Hope the day brings you good things.

Writing schedule:

1. Finish Examiner review of Poems, Protest and a Dream To be posted 3/1.

2. Review "Making the Most of the Money You Earn"

3. Start another Examiner review.

4. Continue reading Teresa of Avila

Sounds like you had a great bridal shower. So sorry your maid of honor had to leave because of that family emergency.

Happiness and sadness.Happy to read about your bridal shower. It is rather sad about Dora's family.

I had a vey nice bridal shower! And yes, a terrible thing because of the family emergency. As our parents age, though, these things happen. Doesn't make them any easier.

She does. She's very strong. I later told her not to worry about any more maid of honor stuff until the night before the wedding which is in in three weeks, to look after her family. At this point, I could even let her out of that if need be, but she wanted so much to be a part of it all.

It is. I will always be grateful (and a little guilty) that she worked so hard to give me a beautiful shower. I'm going to do what I can to help her in this time of need as well.

I see that we kept our journal-type articles' format similar to the one used at The Other Site.

Speaking of that place, I am still $7.11 shy of hitting the Green Button. That's the only reason why I'm bothering to post there since most of my worthwhile connections are not even posting.

I'm doing my best to push you toward the redemption goal. At the rate I was going, it will be nearly 3 years before I'm able to hit it again. Who knows if the site will be there in 3 years?

At the rate that the site is dropping, it probably will not be around three years, much less one. I'll be lucky if I reach the $50 mark any time soon.

How considerate of your friend who, with all her own problems, didn't want to spoil the shower for you.

Yes, and I will be forever grateful and a little sad.
