Stop using dogs to scare your elephants
The Pittsburgh Zoo finds it necessary to herd its elephants. However, using dogs to herd those elephants is cruel indeed.
The United States Department of Agriculture ordered the zoo to stop using the dogs to herd pachyderms, but Pittsburgh zoo continues the practice. (The USDA is really a winner in the ineffective category.)
The dogs are at risk, humans are at risk and the elephants are at risk as a result of this elephant-herding method used by the zoo.
If Pittsburgh Zoo would stop messing around with dogs and elephants, perhaps they would learn that there are safer, and more humane methods, to herd elephants.
A caretaker at the zoo has observed the dogs biting the elephants. The dogs also growl and lunge at the elephants.
Pittsburgh Zoo is the only zoo that uses dogs to herd elephants. Wake up and smell the coffee Pittsburgh Zoo
