Eating for England

We all have those days, the days that can only be described as the days that we were Eating for England. The term refers to a contest in eating and therefore implies that all day we've not stopped eating. And today's going to be one of those days.
I was fine - until 10 minutes ago. Until 10 minutes ago all I'd had today were two toasted crumpets. But, I toasted the crumpets right after I set the slow cooker chilli con carne on the go. And now I've just had a portion of chilli con carne with basmati rice - and, to be honest, I don't think I can stop now. That was so lovely, I think I'll be going for seconds soon, then for thirds. And it's possible, unless I have an extremely strong character over the next 7-8 hours, that I'll only stop when I'm scraping the bottom of the dish. As the dish contained 500 grams of 100% Scottish beef, a tin of tomatoes, a tin of red kidney beans and a large onion, some fresh chillies and three fresh tomatoes I needed to use up, that's a not inconsiderable volume of food.
I do hope I can stop myself from scoffing it all today - there's 4-5 meals in that dish! That's the downside to using a slow cooker - the food is so tasty you just want to keep eating it.

Uh oh! Yep, I have those days, too. Maybe you should nip out for a bit and run some errands--or a few miles

I am sitting here trying to figure out what I want to bring for a pot luck this afternoon. Now all I have is Chili on the brain. I'm hungry.

I did manage to resist - and put it into plastic boxes in the fridge :)

It's cold, dark and wet out there - and I've no errands to run.
UK_Writer wrote on February 28, 2015, 1:58 PM
Oh you need a good chocolate bar instead of proper food. And some easy nibbles, like crisps.

I've never been to a pot luck, they're not common in the UK. I hope you work out what to take.

Sounds delicious. I assume there won't be any leftovers?

It's good stuff and a lot better for you than junk food!

There are some days when we cannot get enough. Mix in some healthy foods and you will be just fine.

We use slow cooker to cook peanut with pork ribs. Peanuts take a long time to cook.

Ah yes, I have days like this.
Far too many days like this.

There is no such thing as leftovers, everything I cook has set portions in mind. I cooked up 5 portions. Leftovers are what people generate when they have no idea how much will be eaten. I cook and eat everything I make, so I know how much I'm making and how many meals that is.
I ate one portion that day, then I put two portions in the freezer - and I've had one portion today, so there's one more portion of chilli which I'll have tomorrow.

Junk food is a term thrown around by people without defining what it is
I don't eat junk food .... just sweeties.
UK_Writer wrote on March 2, 2015, 1:28 PM
Why would eating MORE food make it OK? Never understood that thinking :)
UK_Writer wrote on March 2, 2015, 1:29 PM
I was good in the end. I served up one portion ... and a little bit more, then I immediately put four portions into plasticware ready for the fridge.
UK_Writer wrote on March 2, 2015, 1:30 PM
Well, take the peanuts out then :) Use smooth peanut butter - which you can buy, or make yourself
UK_Writer wrote on March 2, 2015, 1:30 PM
Why not just make it for yourself then? I'd not give something up just because others didn't like it.

Sometimes it happens for a week, once you start eating everything in sight it can be hard to stop :)

Yes, i have "go to" foods that fill me, that aren't too bad and that can stop home eating junk. Usually almond or peanut butter or hard boiled eggs and mayonnaise.
