True Ghost Stories: The Haunted Office

One of my stranger hobbies is collecting true ghost stories that I had heard from friends, family members and colleagues. I sort of developed this hobby by accident as I noticed that all my life I have found myself studying or working in places known to be haunted. As someone who was initially skeptical, I had learned that sometimes even science cannot explain everything. All the stories I collected are real in th sense that they were experience first-hand by the witnesses I interviewed. I wrote them down in the original languages that they were recounted in, either English, Malay or Hindi but I have made an effort to translate them and share them here as I believe that people who experience hauntings, spiritual possessions or who have seen and heard inexplicable or strange things that go bump in the night are not necessarily crazy.

One of the first stories I heard was from a colleague who worked night shifts at my old office. Now staff have been insisting that the place was haunted and the rumours had been persisting for years. Back to Jack (not his real name) who was the colleague of mine on night duty. One night while sitting in his office alone, he heard strange rustling sounds. Looking around him, he was absolutely stunned to see the document folders at the two desks next to his opening and closing as if being toyed with by an invisible hand. Then some of the stacks of paper on the same table began to flutter as if being blown by some unseen wind. Even the pens and pencils on the desks began to move about by themselves. Jack jumped and sprang right out of his chair.

Now, in this scenario he could have taken one of two options. The first was to scream and run for his life out of the office and never sign up for the night shift again. The second approach was the one he took. Being a religious man, Jack prayed loudly and said in an unwavering voice "I respect you and mean you no harm. Please respect me in return and leave me alone". Amazingly the activity stopped. Jack breathed a sigh of relief.

Ever since that night, he was never bothered again although occasionally other colleagues would mention hearing strange noises or seeing apparitions in the dead of night.
