Where in the World Are You Writing From?

One of the wonderful things about sites such as Persona Paper is that you get to meet people from all around the world. I had penpals when I was a child, writing letters to others from many countries. I see PP as an extension of that childhood passion. I live in New Zealand which, if you're not already aware, is the tiny country almost disappearing off the right of the globe, looking more like a pen mark made by mistake. Yes, we are a little country, with only about four and a half million people. We do have ten million sheep though!

As far as I'm aware I'm the only Kiwi, or New Zealander, writing on this site at the moment. I may be wrong, indeed, I hope I am. There have been a handful of Kiwi writers on other sites I've belonged to, but they have chosen other sites to drift to.

I thought it would be fun to find out which countries people are writing from. I know I can look up on the members list, although many fail to identify their location. It's much more fun if you tell us here, where in the world you're writing from, state or region if you're in a big country like the US. Then, maybe you may even be inspired to tell us a little more about your country. I look forward to that.

I'm from the U.S. I live in southern California, but I'm originally from northern Wisconsin. I miss the change of season, but I don't miss shoveling snow or driving on ice. I'd like to visit Australia and New Zealand some day. I recently was invited to visit friend in Finland. That would be fantastic, but I think I'll wait till summer.

valmnz wrote on February 23, 2015, 7:14 PM

California is just across the ocean emoticon  it seems such a wonderful place of sunshine and fruit?

msiduri wrote on February 23, 2015, 7:18 PM

Sunshine, yes, not as much fruit as there once was. Housing developments and shopping malls. And cars!

I met people from NZ on Bubblews. so maybe they will join, eventually. I'm in the southeastern US, although I do get influenced by my British friends and use some turns of phrase that make me sound more like I came from across the pond!

valmnz wrote on February 23, 2015, 7:23 PM

I remember, our oranges came from California when I was a kid.

valmnz wrote on February 23, 2015, 7:24 PM

They went to EliteVisitors and that other one CGP?? whatever. I've tried to talk them into joing here, bu they wanted faster money. So much for that idea.

I am from the United States, and I live in the Land of Lincoln, the state of Illinois. It is freezing here, but we are used to it. I would love to see all those sheep!

I am in the United States. I too had a pen-pal when I was younger. She was from England and wanted to visit the United States and I wanted to visit England. I remained in touch with her through high school.

Heheheheh I live somewhere in Asia where there is a lot of Coconut trees and yummy sticky rice. I think you will find many people who writes here from your country. God bless and have a great productive day.

valmnz wrote on February 23, 2015, 9:50 PM

Yes, and although I've tried to persuade them to come here, they thought the other places were better.

valmnz wrote on February 23, 2015, 9:51 PM

Come on now, Asia is a huge place and there's lots of rice emoticon

I live near to Seattle, Washington, USA. I was born in Renton, WA but moved to Southern California when I was not yet two years old. My father was an entertainer in Hollywood. In 1973, I joined the Air Force, and went to Texas, then Mississippi, then back to Texas. In 1977, I joined the Navy, and I was stationed in San Diego, Hawaii, Virginia, New Orleans, Seattle, Chicago, and then Guam, before moving back to Seattle area in 1992. I have traveled all over the United States, having visited 43 of the 50 states except Maine, Vermont, Missouri, West Virginia, Delaware, New Hampshire and New Jersey. I have been to 3 of the Canadian provinces; Mexico; Sweden; Italy; England; Scotland; Majuro; Korea; Japan; Netherlands; some of all were a passing through or several hours in an airport. LOL

I wish more people would tell us where they are writing from too, and also add pictures to posts to lure us in to read.

I'm in Manchester, England - it is thrilling when writing to and hearing back from people thousands of miles away - shame the Internet kills off old fashioned pen-pal writing though

Coffee wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:58 AM

I'm from England. I must go and update my profile so everyone can tell!

I am currently living in Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan. I have been here for the past 8-9 years, though I was born and grew up in Lahore, the cultural capital of Pakistan where all food, arts and literary festivals take place. It is said you can"take a Lahori out of Lahore but not Lahore out of a lahori, which is true in my case anyway emoticon

I am from the US and I live on the East Coast in the state of North Carolina. We have all four seasons here with very warm and muggy summers.

valmnz I live in South Florida but I am originally from Colombia (not Columbia as my country name is commonly misspelled) and as far as I know I am the only Colombian at Persona Paper.

Kasman wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:34 PM

I am from Scotland - born and bred there. I live just north of our nation's capital city, Edinburgh. If you find Edinburgh on a map I am pretty much due north of there across the River Forth. My house is only about 100 yards from the sea and maybe 10 feet above the high-tide line. If global warming causes the seas to rise I'll be one of the first who has to move house!

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:36 PM

Being cheeky now, does it get that warm in Scotland? emoticon

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:37 PM

Nothing like being unique emoticon  South Florida must be a great place to live?

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:38 PM

And how has the winter there been treating you. Our summer has been very hot this year in NZ., well, hot by ur standards.

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:39 PM

I have heard of Lahore but not Islamabad, I see my knowledge of Pakisatn is lacking. How are you enjoying the cricket?

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:40 PM

Great, I do enjoy knowing where people are from emoticon

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:41 PM

I like this way better, it's more instant! Oh the hours I spent rushing to the letter box, waiting for the postie emoticon

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:42 PM

I guess some of us have been around a bit longer than others and know the way things work best.

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:43 PM

wow, I'm feeling like the flightless Kiwi now emoticon  One of my first penpals lived in Seattle.

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:44 PM

I'd like to visit the Philippines one day. On a recent cruise I took, many of the wonderful crew were from Philippines.

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:44 PM

Your turn will come soon. Our summer is losing some of it's intensity.

Kasman wrote on February 24, 2015, 4:53 PM

Rather surprisingly it can get very warm during a Scottish summer. Temperatures up to 30c are not unknown. Unfortunately, that never lasts. If we are lucky we will get a handful of days in a row at decent temperatures and then four weeks of miserable weather with lots of rain.

nbaquero wrote on February 24, 2015, 5:08 PM

valmnz Absolutely I've been living here for almost 15 years now, and I like it, except for the Hurricane Season.

valmnz wrote on February 24, 2015, 6:42 PM

Wow, that has to be a claim to fame! I saw the group The Beatle Boys recently, they were very good at singing The Beatles songs.

CoralLevang wrote on February 24, 2015, 10:50 PM

Penpals. I used to have one who lived in Seattle while I was in California, when I was just about 10 years old. Her name was Annette. I also remember her last name. I should see if I can find her with this old name.

Dawnwriter wrote on February 25, 2015, 1:35 AM

Hehe, after losing two matches against India and West Indies, not enjoying the state of our team in WC, but overall some great matches and great entertainment emoticon

Dawnwriter wrote on February 25, 2015, 1:37 AM

nbaquero As far as I know I am the only Pakistani on PP. But who do you support in football/soccer matches? Colombia or US?

valmnz wrote on February 25, 2015, 1:50 AM

I've tried without success to find Nancy Peasley from Seattle. I even wrote an article about her on a previous site.

CoralLevang wrote on February 25, 2015, 2:05 AM

I just found Annette H. and I don't know if she is the same, but she works for one of the school districts in the Tacoma, WA area. There was an email address. There was a picture of her. She had a "familiarity" about her, so I just wrote a few words asking if she might be one in the same.

We'll see.

valmnz wrote on February 25, 2015, 2:16 AM

Wouldn't that be fantastic!

nbaquero wrote on February 25, 2015, 10:28 AM

dawnwriter Colombia all the way, I grew up watching the Southamerican football players like Pele and Maradona, and Colombians like Valderrama and nowadays James Rodriguez. The US doesn't have that type of player, with the exception of Landon Donovan. So the feeling is different. I guess this translates to cricket for instance, if the US were to compete in the ICC (even if they had player with Pakistani, Indian, Australian, etc root, it would not be the same).

bestwriter wrote on February 27, 2015, 2:26 AM

You are now familiar with my country having read so many of my posts that have talked about my country - India - atleast through posts on fruits that grow only here emoticon
