Should Drug Traffickers Be Killed?
In certain parts of the world, the punishment for drug trafficking is death. I do know that as humans we do not have the right to take the life of another. This is the realm of God. Only he gives and he takes.
Unfortunately, the issue here is beyond this simple argument. Many countries have laws such as this to ensure that nobody will dare to do drugs in their countries. Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are some of such countries.
When tourists enter these countries they are informed of the rules within these nations. There are huge posters and notices informing visitors at all entry points. There is no way anyone can plead ignorance if caught.
Hence, this is the plight of my article today. What should the government do if someone knowingly enters these countries with a lot of drugs on their being? Should the law be pushed aside in the name of humanitarian grounds and those caught be fined or given a jail term instead or should death be the answer?
Currently, there seem to be an issue in Indonesia where two Australians have been caught for the above mentioned offence. it seems that everyone has his or her opinion on the matter. The social media is abuzz and netizens have different opinions on the matter.
It cannot be denied that the punishment of death is harsh but it also cannot be denied that the smuggling was done with full awareness that death is the punishment if caught ..... and they were caught.
It does not make sense to bring too many outside issues into the matter. Just because Indonesia is less developed than Australia does not mean that their laws are irrelevant. The law need to be adhered to but what if the law seem too harsh?
So my fellow friends, how do we get around this little pickle that we have found ourselves in?
