Snowbound

Like everyone else in the Northeast, Midwest and Eastern Canada, we are snowbound. I don't even bother to think about going anywhere most days, and have resorted to having even groceries delivered. The roads are cleared with regularity, but since it snows constantly, the upkeep on stairs and walkways has started to degrade.

It snows every day. It doesn't matter if the sun appears in the morning, the sky will soon darken and turn grey and the snow will start to fly. It was bright sunshine yesterday morning but by afternoon, it was snowing again.

Today's forecast is a little bit different. The sun was out this morning, bright and cheery. The clouds were light and airy set against a brilliantly blue sky. But it's already turned to a solid backdrop of grey and menacing and it will start snowing soon. But the twist is that this snow is going to turn to freezing rain.

The rain gutters on every house are already filled with ice and long icicles hang almost to the ground. These are icicles of such size that if one fell on a person, it would be a sight that might make Vlad the Impaler look like an amateur. The freezing rain is bound to cause more damage than a foot of snow ever could as water leaks into walls and roofs collapse.

Spring sounds like such a good idea, but I am convinced it ought to arrive slowly, or we will be flooded as the mountains of snow melt. If only we could convince Spring to start its approach with great care.

I am afraid Spring may just March in, suddenly.

In the Chicago area we are just to darn cold. The walk with the dog yesterday was brutal. Hurry up spring!

One of my articles this week is going to be about the extreme weather (article is not for here, but for a corporate blog) it's going out backdated to the middle of last week so as to be majorly topical. Here in the UK, it's just on 5pm and we are cold but there's still light in the sky, which is good to see. Hope spring arrives slowly and gradually for you so that you don't all get flooded. Wales is dealing with some massive tides at the moment, that does not look pretty. Tomorrow, we are going to be rained upon all day in this area too.

We're getting a lot of cold weather, and we've gotten quite a bit of snow lately as well. It's been a mix of both. It's definitely not pleasant.

It is a sticky wicket with wanting Spring but not too fast with the melting issues.

I am wanting spring also, but for today it will be all snow outside. Hoping it clears out tomorrow.

You know I'm going to say it's summer here in New Zealand I'd love to experience snow like that, just once mind you. I can see how horrible it must eventually become for those of you constantly living with it.

I was really concerned by the thought of the freezing rain but it looks like we only got the snow, more than I expected however 6-8 inches new. It never ends and now the cold is returning tomorrow. :)

Hope the freezing rain forecast was a mistake and your white blanket outside kept growing, instead. AND that spring inches its way to you...
