My Grateful Student

This afternoon, my family decided to drop by at Evia city to walk leisurely after having lunch. I just loved the sunny weather with invigorating fresh air. A group of ladies sat next to our table while I and my family were having snacks .As soon as I finished my milk shake, I went inside the mall to buy my favorite cupcake at Baby Cakes. I was told by the cashier that she did not have loose change for my paper bill. I almost turned my bag upside down in search for coins. Little did I know that my goodies have been paid by my former student.

“ Miss, your goodies have been paid” , the cashier told me.

“huh?...”

I felt someone patted my shoulder. When I turned, a girl in her mid twenties flashed a beautiful smile at me.

“ hey…” I said ; and I smiled back while trying to recall who this girl with a familiar face was.

“ hi , ma’am!”

I realized she was my former fifth grade pupil.

“Ma’am, when I was your pupil you used to share your packed sandwich to me whenever I did not have baon. Now , I am just returning your kindness to me”. She said.

Wow! I was not expecting that my little gesture would be something unforgettable to her.

We headed out of the mall and walked outside. I chanced upon a fancy accessory at the bazaar. I bought it for her as a memento.

In the picture were red velvet crinkles, salted caramel and cookies & cream cupcakes.

It was a great Saturday, indeed.

this is the best part of being a teacher. we spread love and our former students keep coming into our lives over and over again.

Good deeds really bear fruit at times we least expect it. There are two types of teachers students don't forget: one is the very good and kind one and the other is the very strict and mean one. I'm glad you belong to the first type, Ms. Jen, hehehe!

A lovely moment for both yourself and your student - sounds like you are a great teacher for students to be so inspired by you and grateful to you years on from their education

That is something money cannot buy. It feels good when students still remember us no matter how many years had passed.

Aww that is such a sweet story you have shared with us. You obviously made a very big impact on her for her to remember that and want to pay it forward by buying you your food. I hope that you two got to chat a little bit and catch up.

Wow! that is a teary eyed moment for me. very good teacher to her. On those days that maybe her mom has nothing to give her for school snacks... you are there to give her one to fill her stomach. Studying is not easy, you have a happy tummy so you can endure the dreadful subjects that you are learning to love. Lol! God bless yo all.

Right Vitta ! I could not agree more. Although I have not been teaching since 2007, it feels great that my students still recognize me. Sometimes, I go out with my pupils for coffee or movie. I love listening to their college adventures.

I was a strict teacher, i mean very strict hahaha. But outside the classroom, during breaktime, I hang out with my students in the school cafeteria. I wanted them to feel that they could treat me like a confindante
