The Church, The Dark Ages, Chemistry and Vitalism

You remember watching the old movies where religious figureheads crown kings? This is what actually occurred. The Church, behaving in a manner contrary to the early teachings of Christianity, acted as a kind of consort of kings, gaining great power and bringing in the Dark Ages. The effects were much more far-reaching than most of us realize, even changing the thinking of scientists. That changed thinking, believe it or not, goes on still.
That's why I wrote an article -- a science article, not a religious one at heart -- on the effect religion has had on astronomers, chemists, and others. You might enjoy it if you have a technical mind: Organic Compounds, Life, and Vitalism . If you do read it, please let me know what you think. I am interested in your opinion. Science is near and dear to me, but it is most decidedly not without its flaws.

I read your article and find it quite complex. Your ability to get into the mind set of the Dark Ages of science and religion and that thing you call Vitalism is very deep.

I had read that Darwin actually did not publish Origin of Species for either 20 or 40 years fearing the Church.

I don't know about that, but to be honest, the whole thing was a comedy of errors. The church of the time was altogether wrong in their ideas concerning creation and Darwin was wrong about his ideas concerning evolution. Neither "side" was correct in its perspective.
