Welcome the Year of the Sheep!

My country is a Catholic nation but it also celebrates the Chinese New Year. The Chinese have been part of our Filipino society that their influence can not be undermined. The wealthiest Filipinos are of Chinese descent while a lot of local celebrities are also Chinese in origin. That is why the Filipinos are also celebrating the Chinese New Year. Just like any Chinese community, Filipinos and Chinese alike stage dragon and lion dances to drive away the negative energy that might pass on in the coming year. There are lots of fireworks too. Any Chinese New Year celebration will not be the same without it.

As of this writing, the Chinese community in my hometown are now having street parties for this celebration. Welcome the year of the sheep!

Yesterday we had "tikoy" and pansit for merienda. We may not be Chinese but we also believe in good luck charms. May the Year of the Goat be more prosperous for all of us! Kung Hei Fat Choi!

That is very interesting. I didn't know that Filipinos celebrated Chinese New Year. I learned something new today.
