Friday the 13th Strikes the Freezer

I'm not usually superstitious. I generally try to ignore Friday the 13th and do a darn good job of it.

I returned home from work tonight... to find that my freezer ... was left open a smidge this morning.

Not real thrilled to discover we lost the entire freezer.

Not real thrilled to discover I am the perpetrator.

I'd like to blame it on the dog, as it is the Kong stuffed with peanut butter and frozen that I give the dog before leaving every a.m.

Bad dog! Bad freezer! Bad human!

And so the mission of eating our way through the freezer in February has been aborted.

Only made worse by the brutally cold temps this weekend should I want to actually buy items for the freezer.

Blah! Who knew a slightly open freezer door could do such damage. Cha ching.

Well, anything that hadn't been cooked can be cooked and frozen again. Except chips - they have to be eaten immediately, it's the law, with lashings of ketchup and vinegar.
Anything that's been cooked is probably still OK in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Years ago we had a post-storm power outage and had to eat or lose everything in the chest freezer in a matter of a few days.

Man that really sucks. My hubby hasn't had a very good day either. He came home, decided to help me with the fish. But after he dropped it on the floor (thank goodness it was wrapped in foil) I told him to go sit down. I really didn't want to eat my dinner from the floor. Do you think your insurance may cover it.

UK_Writer well I am always a proponent of the chips, I actually could probably thrive on just chips ...

rosepetal no it won't cover it. At least you saved dinner :)

DWDavisRSL I hear ya, this isn't our first rodeo except I caused. Last summer we had quite a few long power outages and lost the freezer :(

That stinks but a lot can probably be saved by cooking it first then refreezing it. Hope you dont lose too much.

That is a shame -- and then to learn that you were Friday the 13th ... LOL

So focused on the Valentine holiday that I completely forgot that yesterday was a Friday the 13th. Whew! Good thing I didn't break a mirror. :)

Aw, that's terrible. But I'm surprised the freezer tanked. I would have only expected the food to thaw. And I agree with UK_Writer - much of the food could be savaged...
