Do You Have a Right to Write Boring Posts?

Being boring is subjective - and part of your personality - so, if others consider you boring, your existence nonsensical, does it matter? Do you have a right to write boring posts here?

I have the misfortune to be available to post at a time of day when one particular poster, who I consider boring, is also very active - very active posting lots of posts I have no interest in. Heck, they don't even stick an image on them! Really - no thought, no care ... and my posts are often swamped by short bursts of 2-3 posts by this individual.

I looked at their profile and saw "the management" had suggested 11 days ago that they should interact more, they said, specifically " I highly recommend to stop posting so much at once and start interacting. " and it looked like it was in response to them being asked if pay rates would be increasing. Since then they've created 90 more posts of a similar style (and no doubt, content). I've not read any of them! Somebody is though.

Well, then my eye was drawn to their pile of shiny coins - and I did the quick maths of how many coins/post are they making. And, darn it, they're doing better than me! The poster I found boring is making over 85 shiny coins/post. I don't make 40!

Heck, you know what this means....? It is ME who is boring! Me! Not them!. Stats don't lie :)

So, I do reserve the right to be boring in a post - I mean to continue how I started. It's my right and I plan on abusing that right!

I just stop following people who bore me. I can't muster up enough energy to worry about what other people are writing.

Koalemos wrote on February 13, 2015, 12:20 PM

As you say boring is a subjective factor, although failing to interact rather constitutes a waste of time. The earnings alone at Persona Paper are not sufficient to be a good incentive to post, so if somebody does not enjoy the social aspect then there is little point in being here.

j2jworkz wrote on February 13, 2015, 12:41 PM

All I will say, is I agree with you and will continue to write my boring posts, even if they fly off the page :)

nbaquero wrote on February 13, 2015, 12:50 PM

UK_Writer Don't worry, statistics don't tell the whole story, especially considering the number of coins earned by leaving comments in other's members posts, the relevance of the posts, quality of the writer, etc. Those are intangibles that make a huge difference in the long run.

phoenixmaid wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:20 PM

Woohoo hell yeah keep your boring posts coming lovely. I see this as encouragement to keep posting my own boring posts. I feel a long tale about my yarn obsession in my future or perhaps a lunch post or maybe a tale of woe next time I stump my toe. Silliness aside some people are surprisingly good at writing content which looks good to search engines but is nothing but dull to the poor human eye that wonders across them.

I am always boring in my posts. I write about the world as it interacts with me (or in the case of this week, as it p*s me off) and I rarely remember to ask open ended questions. I write because I need to empty my head and because I can say on paper what I would tell my husband but not my boss to their face. I am a self centred little lump who likes to vent and finds that writing is a good way of so doing.

There, I've said it! Now everyone knows why I am here.

Spade = infernal Anglo Saxon digging implement. If you can't deal with that, don't be following me *grin*.

Fortunately, I think you know all of that already UK_Writer , and yet you're still following me. For which I thank you, heartily.

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:46 PM

I am not following them - but when I want to post they're swamping the home page.

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:46 PM

They must be active on social media to be getting so many coins and not interacting.

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:47 PM

LOL. OK, so that's two of us who admit to having boring posts and not caring :)

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:48 PM

Well, somebody, somewhere - significant numbers of people - must find them interesting enough to read, probably all external sources. They've got a solid offsite following, or something...

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:49 PM

I think they'd written a book of their life, in 250 chapters, and were posting it all.

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:50 PM

I only pretend to follow you, of course... wouldn't be seen dead reading dull stuff :)

LadyTrouble wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:52 PM

I am a bit confused. Now I haven't been very active here and things may have changed, but I thought that you don't earn off of the posts you make. I thought you earned off of the comments you make on others posts.

Kasman wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:53 PM

Boring is in the eye of the beholder. Of course you have the right to be boring - just as I have the right not to read boring posts, or comment on them! emoticon :winking:

Koalemos wrote on February 13, 2015, 2:17 PM

They may simply connect to everyone in the hope of getting views, but if they fail to reciprocate it will come to an end soon.

phoenixmaid wrote on February 13, 2015, 2:22 PM

You earn a little on Both LadyTrouble.

valmnz wrote on February 13, 2015, 3:41 PM

I only read posts that interest me. But you're right, some posts that may have no interest to some of us often get way more views than ours. Maybe there are less serious readers and writers here and we need to all lighten up a little. Who knows.

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 4:19 PM

True, hadn't thought of it like that... we'll never know. All I know is, they get more coins than me :)

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 4:21 PM

You earn two coins for each unique visitor to something you write.
You earn one coin for each comment you leave on somebody else's posts.

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 4:22 PM

But every now and again you can't help yourself and you do a "pity comment". Thank you for your consideration :)

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 4:22 PM

pfft lighten up - now where's the fun in that? Heck, if everybody lightened up, just think what'd happen - we'd all be happy! Where's the point, and the fun in that??

crowntower wrote on February 13, 2015, 5:17 PM

I don't think we need to concern ourselves about boring post, if the post ally boring then don't read the whole content and remember the name of the blogger so when you see the article is from them you can easily avoid them. LOL! Sometimes those people who always ask for the rates are people who really do something to improve their bank. I guess the only thing we can do is focus on what we are doing and we will all get something. God bless.

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 5:18 PM

It's a shame, in my opinion, that the author's name doesn't show on the standard home page snippets.

bestwriter wrote on February 13, 2015, 7:23 PM

I think I have come across that user who uses the same title with a number. There are no comments on the posts but the user gets sizable views.

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 7:29 PM

That's the one. Same title and a number. Looks like today they reached the end of Chapter 999g or whatever they got up to....

Feisty56 wrote on February 13, 2015, 7:43 PM

Perhaps this is exactly what has kept me from posting regularly for quite some time now -- the fear of being boring. I also know, though, as you've already pointed out, that what is boring is not universal. I find reading about some people's everyday lives to be interesting, not necessarily because the details are so spellbinding, but because the writer has a style or way with words that draws me in.

I've not compared my earnings to anyone else's, not at this site or any other. There are too many variables that contribute to a pay total, for one thing. I do the best that I know how, read other people's success stories to learn what I can -- but mostly, I come to this site to enjoy myself reading, interacting and posting.

UK_Writer wrote on February 13, 2015, 7:51 PM

I've a bit of an obsession with numbers and comparisons, ratios and stuff :)

bestwriter wrote on February 13, 2015, 8:14 PM

The amazing part is the number of views. Where do they come from?

allen0187 wrote on February 13, 2015, 8:16 PM

I wrote a boring post a couple of days ago. I even titled it as such. It didn't work, other posters thought it wasn't boring enough. LOL!

DWDavisRSL wrote on February 13, 2015, 8:19 PM

Boring people are still people and should be allowed to post if they so desire. After all, some other people might not be bored by what the boring person posts. One person's prosaic prose may be another's titillating tale.

GemOfAGirl wrote on February 13, 2015, 11:25 PM

I think everyone has the right to be boring, and everyone has the right to ignore whomever they find to be boring. I'm sure my "War and Peace"-length posts are boring to a lot of people, which is fine. I refuse to write stuff that is boring to me, lol, and if nobody wants to read it, then so be it.

luisga814 wrote on February 14, 2015, 4:56 AM

you said that you have boring posts. But this boring post, given you 18 visits and 10 likes. I am not sure yet if i am part of your 18 & 10. Keep up the good writing boring post to make you successful. Sometimes, i am guilty of writing boring posts. The only good posts for my own judgement if i am not mistaken when i wrote about parables of a teacher and a librarian. That gives moral lesson. Although, i wrote more but not that perfect enough to be excellent.

cheri wrote on February 15, 2015, 12:34 AM

You are entitled to it. I do not follow a lot of people and I only choose those who interest me.

UK_Writer wrote on February 15, 2015, 8:02 AM

LOL/not boring enough - it proves that it doesn't matter how hard you try, you can't actually please any of the people any of the time

UK_Writer wrote on February 15, 2015, 8:03 AM

What you mean is - all the boring people will find each other, so it's OK as they won't be alone :)

UK_Writer wrote on February 15, 2015, 8:03 AM

Yes, nobody has to read it - so long as they load the page it's a "view" and therefore 2 shiny coins :)

UK_Writer wrote on February 15, 2015, 8:04 AM

I'm just super popular - and my adoring public knew that I couldn't possibly, ever, write a boring post:)
So they came to check.
We are not good judges of what's good/not, a post you think will fly off the shelves will languish - and something pretty boring you thought you wrote gets great responses.

UK_Writer wrote on February 15, 2015, 8:10 AM

Yes, I don't read/comment on posts simply to get a shiny coin. Life's far too short. I could better use the time looking for kitten photos.

Ellis wrote on February 15, 2015, 11:34 AM

Boring or not you just landed yourself another follower....quality always win out over quantity...

erikalui wrote on February 15, 2015, 12:33 PM

OK well. I guess you are talking about me and yes, I am active on social media. If I am boring, then I am happy with that lol. And well, my readers find it interesting so that's what matters to me the most and I post it for them. I love writing fictional stories and I don't think so I am that boring or not following the rules here. For me the main thing is following the rules and posting original content. I have to say that I really wonder that I am so bad that you needed to write an article about me being boring. I also do not know if one can post an article targeting a member of this website. Thanks.

Last Edited: February 15, 2015, 3:39 PM

erikalui wrote on February 15, 2015, 12:36 PM

Also, I don't post pictures as I don't want to have any copyright issue else earlier on another writing website I used to but then I stopped.

erikalui wrote on February 15, 2015, 3:35 PM

Sorry, that is not the case with me and I don't beg for views. People instead request me to update my story.

ViperGirl85 wrote on February 15, 2015, 10:37 PM

What's boring to one person may not be boring to another. My posts are boring, but I enjoy writing them, and never ask anyone to actually read them. If people want to, then it's appreciated. If not, then it's understood. :) I do, however, try to interact when I -do- post, which isn't often. If people are going to post a lot at once, and want views/comments, they should view and comment as well. :)

UK_Writer wrote on February 16, 2015, 1:41 PM

It's boring to me because: you post in batches, seem to be posting up a long story, have no pretty image to catch my eye. I've not actually read any of them to know if they're actually boring :)

UK_Writer wrote on February 16, 2015, 1:43 PM

I think I am officially boring, I recently started following somebody who has less than half my posts, yet more coins than me. The problem is with me .... d4mn. Nobody ever told me before!

erikalui wrote on February 16, 2015, 2:04 PM

Yes, I am writing a story and I do not add any images so that there is no copyright issue. You haven't read them and term them boring? Weird as you judge the book by its cover. Not only that, you write an article to make others aware its boring is more weird. For me, I wouldn't add an image of a cat for a post about a boring individual or article. It does not match and I respect animals more than humans. They are innocent. Instead I could have given you my pic as it would be relevant then LOL
You being a writer should respect other writers here as well instead of criticizing them and mocking them. Constructive criticism is always welcome and I would not mind you telling me that on my face but this article does not sound good at all as you are indeed mocking me. Making articles on writers is an immature thing to do and if everyone here starts practicing this style, I can't imagine how this place would be.

With reference to you reply on the management's profile: Musing and self mocking does not reflect in your words used in the post. If I were you and would compare two members, my words would be

"I have come across a member who posts regularly and writes a story in series which does not match my interest as there is no image for any article. I have noticed that many people are interested in reading the articles and so I feel that indeed my posts aren't so interesting compared to the member."

You instead used words like "I have the misfortune", "who I consider boring", "no thought, no care" " Looks like today they reached the end of Chapter 999g" which cannot be self mocking but you are mocking me, degrading me and trying to prove yourself better. I am sorry to say this but your article shows the insecurity and jealousy. Your article came like a shock to me and hurt me because of which I had to report to the management which I guess you did not appreciate like I did not appreciate your post.

For me the SHINY coins aren't important more than my self respect which is priceless. I don't want to judge you based on your article but for sure I would not like to associate with you as you don't match my interest. I have not given a right to anyone to degrade me. You had no courtesy to say SORRY as you don't feel like. Fine but don't give any explanation that contradicts your words. Thanks and Good Luck!

Nahhhh, you're not boring. Do you interact a lot or share your posts to social media? I wouldn't even worry about how anyone else is doing on here, just focus on you. :)

UK_Writer wrote on February 28, 2015, 5:19 PM

I interact a bit - and share every post on at least 2 social sharing sites, depending on the subject and relevancy to the specific social platform.
