Free Ways to Promote Your Blog

Blog design and writing blog posts can be considered time consuming activities but the both of them combined can’t compare with the effort it takes to promote a blog to achieve decent levels of success. Blog promotion is hard work but it is necessary if you want your readership to expand and your daily hits to climb. These are the statistics that matter to potential advertisers so they should matter to you too if you plan on making money from your blogging efforts.

Take a look at some of the following ideas for promoting your blog for free.

Get Listed

One of the first things you should do is submit your blog to the popular blog directories. Technorati and Google Blog directories both have a good list of pinging addresses and the process of submitting a blog is surprisingly painless. In exchange for your minimal effort you get an ‘introduction’ to a long list of search engines of your blog’s arrival.

Become a Social Media Rock Star

If you are a blogger you need to get comfortable with social media platforms. They are quite simply the way forward for bloggers to reach a vast number of people in a short space of time. Sites like Twitter are great for sending out concise messages, whereas Facebook might be better for community type messages because you can develop a fan page or group and actually use email messaging to send longer notes.

Join Online Forums

Forums are a great place to network with other like-minded people and use your expertise to help answer other people’s questions. This can lead to more visits to your blog because you are allowed to include your URL link when you sign into the forum.

Build Links with Other Bloggers

When you cross link with other bloggers and develop relationships that lead to your blog being added to a blogroll for instance it can turn into lots of traffic for your blog.

Write Guest Posts for Related Blogs

Guest posting is another way of getting your name out there. If you target slightly famous bloggers you have a good chance of engaging them and landing a guest posting gig which could attract a large number of new readers to your blog.

Use Article Marketing to Spread Your Blog Link

Article marketing can be used to build your online credibility and drive traffic to your blog. Ezine.com is one directory that has achieved high Google rankings and offers authors a resource box to include a short bio with a link to their website or blog. This can be a great way to find niche readers and drive them to your main blog.

There are many different ways to promote your blog without spending a dime. One of the keys to success though is to have a plan and stick to it because repetition often yields results.

The one thing I really have never understood is what a "ping" is. I wish you would tell me. I really should get active promoting my blogs.

Thank you for the info, I think I have to help myself be comfortable with social media first. And to add up I think blogvertise.com can help you also to promote your personal blog there, it is free to join as long as you can fill your blog everyday and you will not make it stagnant or else they will inactivate your blog to their advertisers.

HappyLady a ping in blogging terms is like a little electronic alarm that your blog sends to a server or directories every time you update your content... so the more regularly you update the more pings you send and the higher you index... generally anyway. I hope that helps :) I know it's kind of abstract.
