You have one little problem ...
Finally managed to get back on here
It feels like forever since I was able to get on here but my health decided that I should be out of contact with a lot of people - damned cheek I know.
The little problem I had is bleeding Oesophageal varices which kind of freaked everyone out and emphasised just why we need a local hospital.
Basically, varices are a wonderful side effect of my liver cirrhosis (autoimmune). When the liver doesn't work properly anymore it means that the blood cannot flow normally because of scarring to the liver. This makes the blood find another route via the portal vein.
So far so good, unfortunately this increases the pressure in that vein because it is not meant for this job. In turn this affects other veins in the gastrointestinal system which again are just not meant for this job and unfortunately they behave a bit like a spoiled toddler and just plain refuse to do the thing they are asked to do.
This means that they don't carry the blood very well, they swell and eventually burst - this is what varices are. It can be really frightening, especially for the people around you as the most obvious symptom is that you vomit blood and this is what happened to me last week. Poor hubby almost needed a heart transplant bless him.
It seemed to take forever to get to the hospital by ambulance -about 60 minutes from call to hospital - and by the time I got there I had lost quite a lot of blood. Luckily though treatment is relatively easy - they put a band around the varices and this stops them bleeding. Normally it is a case of overnight stay in hospital but because of the delay in getting to the hospital and the consequences I had to stay in hospital for five nights but finally came home yesterday but I'm totally wiped and under instruction to rest up and catch up on sleep.
So I probably won't be able to catch up with reading all of your posts I'm sorry. I will do my best but as I am only allowed online for a limited time it may prove difficult.
I will be back to firing on all cylinders soon.
