A walk to the lake

There was a thin covering of overnight snow and the morning was one of those bright blue sky ones, but cold and crisp. Great for a brisk walk up the lane, through the woods and round the lake.

I’m lucky enough to live in a small North Yorkshire village with the countryside on my doorstep and a walk in the woods and up to the lake is a fantastic way to start the day. Along the lane, past the field with six llamas (the alpacas and the wallabies are the other way!) , stop to stroke the two horses nodding over the gate, over the style and through the field of grazing sheep towards the lake.

And today I took my camera so you can join me. Wrap up warm and I hope you like the view.

Sounds rather idyllic... especially when you had the pre-Roman-era hill-fort and - presumably? - a decent pub...

That does look like a great place to take a walk. Thanks for sharing with us.

Oh there's definitely a decent pub, good beer, food, conversation and a roaring fire!

You're welcome. A walk I never tire of, and when you climb to the top of the hill, between gasping for your breath, the view is even better!

Just need a few good ghost stories. I checked a bit but can't seem to tell if MR James ever passed your way...

We've certainly got our share of local ghost stories, some folk lore, some legend but I'm not aware of any of his.

That must be a wonderful place to stroll during the summer.

NorthernLight wrote on February 3, 2015, 11:51 AM

Oh it is, and it never gets really busy. But I enjoy it any time of the year.

If you like that sort of thing, he's a - or maybe THE - master...

Those are lovely pictures. Yes, nature walks can be so calming and beautiful. I always try to take my camera along to capture a perfect nature moment.

wow, it looks beautiful. What a peaceful place. God is good to us humans.

Yorkshire is known as 'God's own county' but don't tell everyone.

NorthernLight wrote on February 4, 2015, 4:29 AM

Thanks, and when you take a camera along for a walk you always seem to see things slightly differently, particularly nature.

NorthernLight wrote on February 4, 2015, 4:31 AM

It's a good place to go for a spot of peace and quiet and to gather inspiration for what to write next. Works for me.

Thanks, glad you like them and yes it brought a smile to my face that day, despite the cold.
