Update on Persona Paper Membership Comment Project - Starting on My Second Hundred Members, and I Caught a Plagiarizer!

My new friend valmnz suggested that I write an update on the Persona Paper Membership Comment Project, or , since I haven't done so in a while, and new members to Persona Paper might like to participate. You can find several articles on it by clicking the tag, but basically, it is a project I decided to embark upon a few months ago that entailed going through the Members List from the very start and leaving a comment on the last post (at the time, anyway) of each member, even the inactive ones. And trust me, the oldest part of the list does have quite a few inactive members. But still, I do run across people like Loudman and sheilagamo , who were in the last group I visited and who are still here, making posts.

I also found a plagiarizer who copied and pasted work found elsewhere on the net and tried to earn money by posting it here, claiming it as his own. NOPE! I reported his worthless butt to MaeLou , and she tossed that bum off the site. I have a very strong instinct to recognize when work is stolen, and it's very easy indeed to verify that, so in addition to helping all the members with extra page views and leaving comments, I am also helping police the site. Sure, it's taking a while--I've only gotten through 106 members so far, and it's now up to almost 1300, but no worries. There's no time limit. The list can get as long as it wants--it will just keep giving me something to do! Several other people have also started participating in this challenge, as well, and if you would like to join in, we would be delighted to have you along for the trip!

That is a daunting task. Good luck with it.

Lutfi_wardi wrote on February 2, 2015, 9:08 PM

that's a good thing, but I don't really care about the plagiarist. Just let the admin handle that, they must be have a system to trace the plagiarist.

valmnz wrote on February 2, 2015, 9:09 PM

I've mde a slow start, but it's happening. If you do a few each day it's surprising how easy it is.

BarbRad wrote on February 2, 2015, 10:18 PM

I just don't have time for this one. I'm stretched to the limit already, but I'm glad you are doing it. Glad you got one plagiarizer out of here.

I have so much on my plate now - all my own doing - what with trying to pick one connection a day - that I will not even attempt it. But I do go there and welcome newcomers.

I can vouch for that emoticon

It sounds like you're doing a fab job :) I just don't know why people even bother copying work and passing it off as their own, I don't see the point of it!

MsBiz wrote on February 2, 2015, 11:45 PM

This is a cool project (and quite ambitious). Are you making some quality connections? It seems like an almost sure-fire way to not miss some good writers.

BrenndaMarie wrote on February 3, 2015, 12:26 AM

That is a very interesting idea, there are a lot of member it would take you all month to go through all of them.

AliCanary wrote on February 3, 2015, 1:12 AM

This is my second kill since I started the project--I also got a person booted who was posting spun content.

carolscash wrote on February 3, 2015, 6:35 AM

What a task! However, that keeps you busy here and gives you plenty of work even if you are having problems with writers fog.

Hollyhocks100 wrote on February 3, 2015, 7:07 AM

Plagiarism was rife over at bubblews and made the front page enough to put people off joining, it did me for a long long time. Glad here they are dealt with promptly and properly.

HappyLady wrote on February 3, 2015, 7:56 AM

I am still too new to be really up with the way this site works, but you just showed me an old friend is here and I will check out the links.

scheng1 wrote on February 3, 2015, 8:42 AM

Good to hear that cheater was thrown off. I cannot tolerate having such persons to spoil the site for us.

Feisty56 wrote on February 3, 2015, 10:09 AM

I think this is a wonderful way to expose ourselves to different writers and posts while also perhaps encouraging some inactive members to begin posting or interacting here if they see interaction on those posts. I was fairly diligent about my participation in this challenge early on, and although I don't have the eye for plagiarism that you do, I did find some new connections along the way.

Unfortunately, my many enforced absences over the last few months has thrown all my challenges into disarray...

nbaquero wrote on February 3, 2015, 2:03 PM

AliCanary I commend your effort, it is really a big project. Thanks for policing the site as well, and help to kick out the plagiarizers. I am glad we have such responsive Admins, so the problem is deal with immediately.

MaeLou wrote on February 3, 2015, 2:04 PM

Yeah, our system is called reading and verifying it on our own.

Thanks AliCanary for caring enough to help out!

MaeLou wrote on February 3, 2015, 2:06 PM

I have no "project" but I am still trying to make my way from the bottom up with the members. I've found plenty of plagiarizers and a lot of user issues this way. It's taking a LONG time though. That's a heck of a lot of members to go through, so I appreciate anyone who actually sends people our way when they've done something wrong.

WordChazer wrote on February 3, 2015, 4:51 PM

I was about 500 members in with my checking project, to find who was active and who not. Then I had to go back to work *grin*. I'll get there, eventually, as you say.

allen0187 wrote on February 4, 2015, 6:20 AM

This is indeed a good project to undertake. Count me in. A little tweak though is that I'll start with the recent members and work my way to the bottom of the list to the older members. Thanks for sharing this one.

GayleStorm wrote on February 4, 2015, 1:40 PM

I'm really glad you posted an update about your project because you've got me on board now too.

AliCanary wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:38 PM

It's not really daunting when you consider there's no deadline, no test, no review and no pressure. I just do it when I feel like it, but it benefits everyone, so it's worth doing a little here and there.

AliCanary wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:41 PM

You should care, because plagiarism hurts the site, which will hurt all of us, including you. Bubblews didn't control the fraud on their site, and it got out of control and ruined everything. So yes, it's a problem, and we all need t help when we can.

AliCanary wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:42 PM

Yes, I only do some every now and then when I think of it, but I've already done over a hundred, and it was never a difficult thing. It's only ever been interesting and fun!

AliCanary wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:45 PM

Thanks! Yes, it's just sheer laziness and greed. They have no talent and no morals.

AliCanary wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:46 PM

I have indeed found some great stuff. The older part of the list has a lot of inactive members, but there are some who are still here, and I am looking forward to finding more. It's a treasure hunt!

AliCanary wrote on February 13, 2015, 1:55 PM

Oh, it will take me longer than that. As long as people continue to join, it's a never-ending project, and I like that a lot!

AliCanary wrote on February 18, 2015, 3:43 PM

I don't usually have a problem, but it does give me plenty of work!

AliCanary wrote on February 18, 2015, 3:45 PM

There was one guy who had a featured article that was plagiarized by at least a DOZEN other Bubblews members, and he wrote another post calling them all out by name, tagging them and providing links to their posts. As far as I know, they were not responsive to that, even though he had already done all the work of finding them. I personally found about 30 plagiarizers and turned them in.

AliCanary wrote on February 18, 2015, 3:46 PM

Good! I like when people make good connections.

AliCanary wrote on February 18, 2015, 3:47 PM

yes, they are extremely proactive about getting rid of people very fast, here.

AliCanary wrote on February 18, 2015, 3:48 PM

That's fantastic! It really does make a benefit in so many different ways to reach out to everyone you can.

AliCanary wrote on February 18, 2015, 4:05 PM

I have missed you! I'm glad I finally saw a new post on your page, and look how many comments you got! Lots of people missed you, clearly.
We'll really have to practice our aim.

Hollyhocks100 wrote on February 19, 2015, 8:57 AM

I must have reported hundreds, but still they were ignored or just kept coming.
