Success Begets Success

As the famous saying goes - success begets success! But what does it actually mean? In simple terms it really means that the more successful something is the more successful it will be. The reason it sprung in to my mind today was because I was thinking of the game that is on-line writing...

... imagine if you will that I have a piece of paper in front of me, and instead of typing these words that you currently see before you I decided to write them out on the piece of paper, and then I filed that bit of paper away in a folder. No one would ever get the chance to read it. Sometimes that is what it feels like when it comes to on-line writing.

The one thing that we all crave and desire when we write something that we post on-line is for people to read it - it is such an obvious relationship. And yet, the 'irony' of it all is that unless we (as writers) are pro-active in also being readers then other 'writers' will not read our stuff. Sure, there is a large 'community' out there in the big old world that is the Internet and there is always the opportunity of them stumbling across one of our posts via a web search, but when you get right down to it our target audience is other users here.

It is the same on many other sites too! Of course it is not a 'reciprocal' relationship whereby a 'view' for a 'view' etc, but by the same token of affect a person who is not pro-active in 'networking' with others will soon find that no one really bothers with their stuff either.

When it comes to on-line writing it is very true that success begets success, but to first become successful one must 'spread their wings' and not rely on people to come to them.

Very true. It is amazing sometimes how things will be kind of quiet, and then just start to take off, like a snowball or avalanche.

yes this is very true. The words are meaningless if not shared. Thank you for your post.

I so totally agree. Some of us were lucky when we arrived here, to find people we already knew from other places. But, I've enjoyed building up a totally new network of interesting people by interacting here. I love the butterfly above, is it in your garden?

I agree. Life has its surprises and twists and turns.
