Fundraising Going Well

I have only asked for help once in my life and that was four years ago in 2011, even then I did not ask for money. I asked for help finding a new place to live after being forced out of my home because of the owners inability to pay his bills. At the same time that we were informed of his bankruptcy, the transmission in our truck from the picture broke. We went to every organization imaginable and could not get help to fix the truck, so we ended up having to junk it to pay for rent.

When the car that my husband purchased in November 2014 broke down, un-repairable, only a month later I was left with a huge decision... Do nothing while facing eviction, or ask for help to get a new vehicle. Reluctantly I set up a fundraiser page through GoFundMe on Facebook for $1500. The first week was the hardest as it felt like I had set this fundraiser up for nothing. Though after sharing what had happened to us on tsu, a lot of people started donating and we are up to $795!

GoFundMe takes fees from each donation, so as it stands, we will get $725 if I were to withdraw the money right now, but that is not quite enough to purchase another vehicle and pay for registration, title fee along with transferring the plates. However my hopes are high that with in a week we will get at least $150 more which should cover everything and allow my husband to return to work, hopefully before our current landlord proceeds with court ordered eviction emoticon

I cannot even recall all the fund raisers I have been a part of. I like to do the private ones. I never got interested in the large groups.

I have donated to the Arbor Foundation and to the local outreach centers but never a fundraiser, which made starting one myself even more difficult than it already was for me.

That's a really big step to take but it seems like it was for the best. One of the greatest things about technology and the internet is the outreach that's able to happen because of it. People are willing to help people in need, no matter where they are. I'm so glad that it's worked out well so far and hope it continues for you. All the best to you!

Glad to hear that things went well. I seldom take part in fund raising events since I do not have much time.
