Be Careful Whom You Befriend

Tuesday I spent a lot of time on photo walks. One of the last places I walked was on a country road in Templeton. It had rained the night before and the world was fresh and green and the sky was amazing everywhere I looked. I parked in a church parking lot and started photographing our beautiful sky, trees, and hills. This is the road I walked.

I took the photo.

I walked to where it appears to end, and then I took a small path up a knoll by the tree near the end and made photos of the hills. There was beauty everywhere I looked.

I finally saw it was getting late and I wanted to stop at home to look for something, so I went back to my car. This is what I saw when I got back to my car. The introductory photo shows a closer view.

I took the photo.

I really needed to get going, but the kitty wanted to be friends. She kept snuggling up to my feet.

I took the photo.

Later, after I finally got back to Paso Robles, I was very tired. I had been on four separate short photo walks in different parts of two towns, and I'd also been shopping. I ate some dinner, worked late, and went to bed. When I got up the next morning, this is what I saw.

I took the photo.

Those of you who tried to guess this photo came very close. That is the back of my leg just above the ankle. It's propped on a cardboard file box and I was tried to get a photo of the bites. I seriously doubt they could be mosquito bites. But given the photo above this, I'm guessing they may be flea bites. This kitty was beautiful and pretty tame, but she did keep trying to sratch her head on me and on the car tires. I suspect she had a few flea bites of her own. I will think twice before making friends with another stray kitty.

Nice little outing and nice kitty though it seems you did not quite like it. Chal have a happy day today and tomorrow.

Soonerdad3 wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:08 AM

It is very possible that those are flea bites.

valmnz wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:13 AM

Oh dear, flea bites can be so annoyingly - well - itchy! Poor kitty, imagine how it must be feeling if you look like that.

I was just wondering if you think it is a scratch how could the cat have done that. But befriending strays has more issues. Lolly the cat I was feeding never let me treat his wounds. He has stopped coming here and I wonder if he is living at all. I have vouched never to feed strays anymore.

BarbRad wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:27 AM

I loved the outing and the kitty was cute. Just didn't like the itchy bites.

BarbRad wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:28 AM

They seem large for flea bites, but maybe they were big fleas.

BarbRad wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:29 AM

I thought about that. It's so tame, I'd think it had an owner, but people often dump kitties in the country. Maybe they thought someone from the church would find it.

BarbRad wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:31 AM

The cat wasn't scratched. She was trying to scratch her itchy head on me and on the car. Wouldn't surprise me if she had a tick or two, as well.

agvulpes wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:34 AM

Wow you must have pretty big fleas over there , I hope you did not let the cat into your car ? Did you try white vinegar on the bites ?

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:58 AM

This is Guiness the Cat. That kitty favors my sister Norma. Debbi says to tell you toothpaste may help the itching.

BarbRad wrote on January 30, 2015, 4:23 AM

I didn't take her home. She was always outside the car. The bites seem better today.

BarbRad wrote on January 30, 2015, 4:24 AM

She is a pretty cat. The itching seems better today.

On the bottom photo of the cat you can see she has a bald patch just below her ear, looks like she could have scratched the fur off. I detest flea bites they itch for days. Beautiful photo┬┤s.

You have some beautiful scenic walks where you live. I love cats. I would have probably befriended it too, never considering such consequences.

LeaPea2417 wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:28 PM

Beautiful pictures but I agree the stray kitty with those fleas was not so nice as he or she appeared.

wolfgirl569 wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:39 PM

Very pretty kitty I thought they looked like flea bites and what you say she was doing I am sure they are.

BarbRad wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:55 PM

I hadn't noticed that. Could it have come off in a fight?

BarbRad wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:56 PM

I will admit that I've never lived in a prettier place in my life.

BarbRad wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:57 PM

At least the bites have stopped itching now.

BarbRad wrote on January 30, 2015, 12:58 PM

It never occurred to me to worry about fleas. My neighbor kitties have never given me any.

wolfgirl569 wrote on January 30, 2015, 1:10 PM

If she is a stray she could have had a lot on her. Your neighbor possibly treats for fleas on theirs. And because of that they would not have as many.

WordChazer wrote on January 30, 2015, 1:16 PM

Our bus seats have fleas...I am covered in bites at the moment.

MegL wrote on January 30, 2015, 1:55 PM

That looks seriously painful. You may wish to be careful they don't get infected. Not a way for a new friend to treat you!

nbaquero wrote on January 30, 2015, 2:52 PM

BarbRad Well now you know, still it is a cute kitty indeed. Hope those bites are gone soon.

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on January 31, 2015, 1:23 AM

I bet the spot is from fleas, or maybe an allergy. If she had been in a fight, she probably would have other injuries. Norma had a hot spot on her tummy that she kept all the fur bitten off of most of the time I had her. It took me forever to get that cleared up.

VinceSummers wrote on January 31, 2015, 7:26 AM

Do you have chiggers in your area? Also, it seems it is not shingles after all, but keep it somewhere in the back of your head, so if you get an appearance of this kind of rash elsewhere...

Gina145 wrote on January 31, 2015, 12:40 PM

I'm surprised that happened when you were wearing closed shoes. That's one of the reasons I rarely wear sandals when I'm going to be spending time out in nature. I suffer terribly when fleas bite me.

Gina145 wrote on January 31, 2015, 12:41 PM

I've had massive flea bites before. I think it depends on how long they bite one for and how allergic one is.

BarbRad wrote on January 31, 2015, 12:54 PM

That's terrible.

BarbRad wrote on January 31, 2015, 12:55 PM

It wasn't too painful. But I won't be seeing this friend again.

BarbRad wrote on January 31, 2015, 12:57 PM

They are pretty much healed by today.

BarbRad wrote on January 31, 2015, 12:58 PM

The top of my back itches like crazy today right under my neck. I'm hoping it's not shingles.

BarbRad wrote on January 31, 2015, 12:59 PM

I was bitten where I was wearing only socks, and they could have picked up fleas. The bites stopped where the shoes started.

PegCole17 wrote on January 31, 2015, 2:17 PM

Those photos were probably worth it though. The kitties are lovely and you may have gotten into some ants or chiggers along your path during your walk. I'm very susceptible to any kind of bug that lives in the grass.

nbaquero wrote on January 31, 2015, 5:04 PM

That is good BarbRad by the way I did not guess correctly, I was close though.

VinceSummers wrote on January 31, 2015, 7:14 PM

My advice? Get it checked out pronto, Barb. If it's shingles, time is of the essence.

AliCanary wrote on February 2, 2015, 8:39 PM

Poor kitty! It must be torture for her to have all those nasty, blood-sucking fleas. I would keep a lovely cat like her inside and safe from parasites. My cats have never had fleas.

BarbRad wrote on February 2, 2015, 10:24 PM

Since only that one foot has bites, and since they are right where kitty was snuggling up to me, I really think they are fleas.

BarbRad wrote on February 2, 2015, 10:25 PM

I did feel sorry for her after I found out why she seemed to be unhappy. What I hate is the though she may have been dumped there.

AliCanary wrote on February 3, 2015, 1:06 AM

Oh, no! That breaks my heart. Such a sweet girl. emoticon :crying:
