Fish and Chips at the Beach

It was such a lovely Sunday evening we decided to drive to a nearby beach, little more than twenty minutes away, to have fish and chips for an early dinner. We have a favourite fish and chip shop down there, but haven't been for ages. There was a bit of a breeze when we arrived, so rather than eat at the ocean beach we returned to the estuary, near the river mouth, where it's much more sheltered.

The fish and chips were wonderful. The fish was exceptionally fresh, far better than we buy from our own shops back here in the city. Because of the breeze we sat in the car eating our delicious meal straight from the paper it was wrapped in, with a dollop of tomato sauce we'd had enough sense to bring from home.

There were several hopeful fisherman on the wharf, maybe they'll be having fresh fish for dinner tonight too. The photo above shows one of the fishing rods of the couple in the car next to us. Even if they don't catch a fish, I'm sure they are having a wonderful time, just being out in the fresh air, enjoying the peace and quiet.

God that sounds so awesome. I could eat some fish and chips myself. The picture looks great too, sounds like you had a great Sunday!

It definitely finished on a high note. I'm off to bed shortly

..and my day has just started. :)
Goodnight, and don't let the bedbugs bite!

I love the ocean. I'm not as much a fish 'n' chip gal, unless it's halibut, but I will go to our ocean, when I can, and find some Dungeness crab. I have sat on the beach and simply cracked crab and eaten it for my lunch, sharing it with the seagulls. :)

That sounds pretty good to me, though I've not heard of Dungeness crab till you mentioned it

I was never keen on fish shop battered fish, so have very rarely had it. I've had chips at a beach a few times, but not fish AND chips emoticon  Glad you enjoyed it

It doesn't get much better than fish n chips at the seaside. My favourite place overlooks the harbour and old abbey at Whitby on the Yorkshire coast.

I have friends who live right opposite from the beach in Criccieth, Wales. Sometimes I would get a letter telling me they had been to the chippy and had supper sitting in their land rover watching the waves while their dog had a good run around, it always made me wish I had been there and so does your post.

Glad to make that link with your friends in Wales

My wife and I love a good fish supper and we have the great good fortune to live just a handful of miles from one of the best chippies in Scotland. It has won numerous awards for its food. Read this:

It will be a while before the fresh air is warm enough for me to want to go out and enjoy it. The photo does look lovely-- such a warm day!
