Always Use an Image on Posts - Even if It's the Same Image

It really does pay to take those few extra seconds to upload an image to any posts you make in your online writing. Even if that means that you have just one image that you use as your avatar image and as your generic posts image.

Multiple times people have researched into these things - studies that show that people will choose to read a post WITH an image over one that doesn't have an image.

It doesn't matter if you use the same image as your regular avatar and your generic post image, or if you have a different one - so long as you have an image for every post. Something, just something, to catch the eye of the idle, bored and random reader who is scanning through posts, looking for something to read.

Of course, your title also needs to be exciting and/or enticing, but the image will catch their eye first/soonest, making you ahead of the game!

It doesn't have to be the best picture in the whole world - just something! You can always change it later if you ever wish to do so, but get something soonest and use it every time. Never leave a post naked!

The posh end of this advice is that it's your branding and part of your marketing opportunities and efforts - but, for now, it's just a nice little image that might catch more readers' eyes!

Great advice mate

Thank you. I use an image unless I'm feeling lazy. I have a set of really cute avatars that I use interchangeably. I also like to create callouts for posts.

I agree 100% and will always be drawn into a post by an image, without one I am likely to skip past and not read.

like you UK_Writer I always use an image, although I am yet to workout how to add a photo to the polls here on PP. Photo's catch peoples eye and helps to draw them in.

Yes, it's easy to just not bother. Especially if you've nothing already to hand, but get an image lined up to use every time, or a small folder of them, and it's easier to make it into a habit

Yes, I think "old hands" tend to think no image is the sign of a beginner, where reward might not be worth the effort. Mean, but life.

I've not done a poll yet, I've loaded the page, then thought my idea for a poll seemed lame. So I didn't create one.

I have created a few images for use here and tend to use them at random for a post.

If it wasn't for messing about with photos I could do much more writing ,going through my disorganised pics. drives me mad. you are right as it's attention drawing to see a picture..

mrtoffee and UK_Writer - we can't put an image in a poll. Nor can we edit polls - if you publish a poll and find you don't like it the only option is to delete it.

Kasman wrote on January 21, 2015, 4:50 PM

I agree. I always have an image on my posts - sometimes more than one - and for the reasons you give here. I don't mind seeing the same image used continuously as an avatar but it is little trouble to place a different image on each of our posts. Doing so avoids what one might call 'visual boredom', ie: seeing the same image over and over again.

No, just wrote a poll - and realised that. Bit of a bummer. I forgot to put any tags in too. Oh well, I only created one to see what happened, see what it was like emoticon  Maybe I'll get better, but I'm not, generally, a Poll type of person.

UK_Writer wrote on January 21, 2015, 5:50 PM

I've started to organise all my photos so many times. So many times. I've also failed to get to the end of that reorganisation an equal number of times :(

UK_Writer wrote on January 21, 2015, 5:51 PM

I'll eventually get round to putting some text on my Avatar image, probably just my username as I'm not gifted with graphics - and that'll at least separate its usage from when I use it in posts. I'll also choose a different generic image to use.... just not this week.

Kasman wrote on January 21, 2015, 6:17 PM

UK_Writer - I don't think we can put tags in a poll either!

mrtoffee wrote on January 22, 2015, 5:08 AM

Thanks for the update on the poll situation kasman emoticon
